Deer contest no-shows

Post counts and length of membership may help, but there are some long time members who post often that are mysteriously absent as the season goes along....

Yeah, I noticed ;) There's always going to be a party pooper, no matter what we do.

Geeezzzz...go to Iowa for 2 weeks, return and then go into the woods for 3 straight weeks during the rut in MS and get a little bad mouthed for not being around enough. :p:p:p:D:D:D

Just kidding but I am guilty of doing exactly that. I do come in when I return home but it's usually briefly before I regroup and head back to the woods for the next trip. ;)

Hey I spend more time in the woods than the vast majority of hunters. A little over 60 days this year deer hunting.:D What can I say...gotta love it!!! :D

Just wait until turkey season opens. ;)

i think if someone was a no-show this year, they should not be able to enter the next years contest of any type and it should be implamented in the rules, that if they enter and do not show up that they can not enter any contest that we have the following year, that might help with the no shows, just a thought.

This is certainly a 'just for fun' contest - but it's sure a lot more fun when your teammates participate.

Quote:

Then there are participants that do show up, kill a critter but never post any pics. I can't figure that one out. I'm not sure if that's happened in the deer contest but I know for a fact it has happened in the turkey contest.

Yep, it happens alright Al. That as well as members not following the rules and not taking the pics like they are supposed to.

...or take a picture of the nice buck they shot, post a picture on the team thread for all the teammates to see, says he'll get a tag pic right away and then enter his deer, and then disappears totally since early November.

There was really a good bunch of guys on my team and most popped in at least once in awhile to update us, even if they didn't shoot anything. Good on ya, guys.

Here's a composite of our venison.

As for qualifying to join next year's event, it'll be fine if you just assign guys/gals to my team who shot a deer with 10+ points this past season. :D

i have been reading this post and i'm gettin worried! I asked to join this contest and was never notified of what team im on are herd back from anny one . where would i find this out ? also my state does not require a tag for our deer so im not sure my kills would count for the contest??

kuntryboy, you are on team 19 I believe (the wallhangers) the list of teams was posted in the "announcements& contests" room. check the rules to find out about your deer (if you have pics of them) there is something in there for you folks in states without tags.;)

I like the idea of 200 - 500 posts and at least been a member 2-3 months prior to the posting of the sign-up post for that year's contest.

I also like the idea of those that qualify under the above, join a contest, and become a "no-show" being banned from participating in any Realtree Contests (Turkey, Squirrel, Predator, Deer, Etc.) for 1 full year, unless they have a valid reason like hospitalized, called to active duty, etc.

I think the qualification of "no-show" should mean if the person doesn't BOTH check-in 1 week or less AFTER teams are posted and check-out at least 1 week or more BEFORE the contest ends they should be marked as a "no-show" and posted on a sticky public list. It should be up to the team captain who submitted the team name for the team to report their team's valid "no-shows" so they get added to the list.

You were and are on Team 19 kuntryboy

All you had to do was go to the Announcements & Online Contests room, and all the Teams, Rules & Entry Thread, etc are pinned in that room

Please read the Rules, before entering your pictures

I like the idea of 500 posts....this is for forum members, not guys/gals who signed up but never participate in the forum.

Also think no shows should be banned until they request reinstatement, to be voted on by mods. That way, no one has to track their 12 month ban or anything....just make a list of who's banned and they gotta make the move to get off the list. ;)

So far, a guy on our team who hasn't showed up since the start of the contest....he's had a whopping 2 posts in the last 12 months.....hasn't responded to any PMs or emails. Woohoo....what a great team member. Why allow him on in the contest next year?

He's probably not a bad guy, but doesn't belong in the contest for forum members.

Would kind of have to agree with this, but think it should be a time frame longer than one year, and not so sure about the public list thing.

My team does a heck of a job in letting each other know what is going on. The encouragement and well wishes through thick and thin is shown by all. We all have busy lives and sometimes we can't post as much as we like. I am certainly proud of the effort put in by the Band of Hunters. One teammate did not put points on the board, but she was good enough to tell us that she tried and her season is over

It is only a small little contest, but it is a big way for people to get to know each other. A great way to share what we all have in common. Maybe a foreword of what the contest is all about and why the rules are the way they are will keep the participants to the program....

I definately agree with a minimum post of 200, and agree there should be a check in time frame. However, I think it should be longer than 1 week after teams post since some folks may already be out on hunting trips and have no access to a computer.

I agree. We don't want to get too anal about this and take the fun out of it for those who really do want to participate. No matter what we do, there are still going to be a few who disappoint the team, by not participating.

Heck, it doesn't matter if you get skunked for the season, but lets share even that together.;)

There will be lots of legitimate reasons for people not being able to check in for periods of time. For example, I even had difficulty getting registered on time this past year because I was working in a remote area during most of the sign up period.

Sorry Jack, but that's just not good enough. :D;):D
