Deer contest no-shows

Seems there are issues with members that go mia for extended periods and I am not talking about Al(Rhino) here. When a member does not check in for 2 or 3 months and does not come back until after the season and contest has ended, that should qualify that member as a "no show" and that member should also be up for banning from future contests.

It is all in fun, but it kind of takes some of the fun out of it when some members do not actively participate. Even if they do not fill a a tag, they stil should check back in.

Exactly ;)

Why would someone sign up and never check in? Don't understand the logic in that :(

Since the contest ended, are we going to do anything about the no shows? Not the guys/gals who didn't get deer, the no shows.

We had a no show for Team #20, the Thwack-Masters. Shot a nice 8 pointer that his brother posted a pic of in the deer hunting forum. He never checked in with the team and never entered the buck. That buck would have put us in 2nd place.:p

I know, the plaque for 2nd place is in the ladies' room :o but it still chaps my backside.

Well I'll be the devil's advocate here-don't make this contest like our society today-too many laws and not enough justice. If you want to punish the no shows-punish them. adding an arbitrary post count or time on the board doesn't really mean much-some members say more in five posts than others say in five hundred. inane forum chatter doesn't make you a more worthy forum member than somebody who is too busy making a living or god forbid HUNTING to be on here as much. Some of us have big families and dial up connections lol. As for the prizes I'd say keep them-not to belittle them but they aren't all that big a dealbut still nice to get some recognition I guess-a realtree shirt with winners name on it would be good. Bottomline is deal with who needs dealing with insteaf making more rules for everybody else.

Guess if anything will be done Craig, the term "no show" would have to be defined. We had one on our team that showed up, and posted the first few weeks or so, but has been mia ever since. I sent him an email just to see if he was OK, and still never heard back from him. Really I could careless about winning or prizes. When things like this happen, it is a let down for the team in a sense, but at the same time, if there is not anything wrong with the persons they should at least have the common courtesy to report back at the end of the contest so other members are not concerned about them. I sincerely hope our mia team member is OK, and has just been too busy to report back.

I'll preface my statement by saying that I really don't count because I don't participate in the contest, but.............

I've always thought this. Seems to me you'd want dedicated forum members in on the contest, not fly-by-nighters. I'd make the minimum post count 2,000 posts, (you know, all the morons :D) or if they've been a member for a long time, minimum 200 posts a year.

As this forum gets older and older, 50 posts is nothing.

I run into the same problem with the squirrel contest. Too many members ruin the spirit of the idea.

I think that is a bit much, I have been a member for a few years and participate in the deer contest. I have only about 800 posts or so, the fact is that we are gonna have people do this reguardless. I think maybee a check in time of three weeks after teams are posted and maybee periodocally. But then again, I am a ghost around here come hunting season because i am away hunting so much. I don't know the answer, but I think 2000 posts is a bit much.

The post count should be considered only because it shows the difference in "members" of this forum compared to folks who just want in a contest for a chance of winning something. These contests are setup to generate more members and traffic in the forums. Great way to meet new folks and maybe make life long friends.

What we do in the turkey contest is make a post count restriction (50) and allow so much time when teams are picked for "every" member to check in with their team. If they don't show to at least let their team know that they are participating...then they are deleted and an alternate is added in their place!

You'll still get some no shows from time to time for reasons out of anyones control (after all, we all still have lives outside of this forum).

I meant to say the odd person and I'll add that I agree with superguide. Post count shouldn't count for squat. I've posted maybe 100 times in the last yr and I'll bet I've had more to say about hunting than some people that have rattled up 1000 posts in the same time.

the contest is for meeting new friends and fun, period. Guys who post twice in a year, join the contest and then don't post anything the entire season are no fun...why should they be allowed in?

Really? Then I find it odd that last yr I received so many p.m's about, "Not seeing all the points I counted", or "it being fishy that I killed 3 good bucks in 3 yrs" and do on.

In killing a truly big deer last yr I made alot more enemies in the contest than friends. Like I said, some guys that the little contest a little too seriously. I'd have liked to enter the contest again this yr, would have added an 11 pt whitetail to someone's score. I'm not the only person to duck out for the same reasons.

Hey, if you won the lottery, bet you'd hear the same type of crap....people are just ignorant and jealous. :( That was an awesome buck you got last year ;)

At some point, hope you can let that go and join again if you liked being in the contest. Most of us are just in it for fun. :D

For me, it's for fun.....but I'd rather win any contest than lose. The no show we had that shot an 8 pointer and never entered it ticked me off. 2nd is better than 5th :D
