NS whitetail
Our schools around here have a Safe Arrival Program. If a student does not show up for school and the school was not made aware of their absence ------ the school immediately calls the students parents. These abduction cases are rare here in Nova Scotia, but with a program in place like this, it could mean a big difference if or when it happens. IowaDeerHunter
I thought that was just a natural thing for schools to do....not really a program. But I gues coming from a school with only 99 kids it is probably a little different.

My daughter has been home sick for two days and we call her in every morning.
HuntingInMaine
The schools around here do the same thing. If I don't call the boys in I will get a call from the school.
Southerngirl
yep, our school system does it too
Shawn
When i was in school they used to call to make sure if the student was just sick or just cutting school for the day. I dont think it had much to do with saftey. For me it always turned into a punishment, unless i beat my parents home and deleted the message. lol
OJR
Never had anything like this! If you were not in school, you were not in school!
rhine16
Yes we had it at my school. Like Shawn said, think it was more for the skipping though.

All students that do not show up for school, get a phone call to let parents know here. Some schools even have an automated system that calls every number including cell phones and work numbers. So parents will know. This even works for early dismissals.
stevebeilgard
Never had anything like this! If you were not in school, you were not in school! orlan and i went to different schools together:D. things have changed. when we didn't show up at school, they assumed we were sick and stayed home. now, they assume much different, and for a good reason. also, they lose the money they get each day for you to be there.... always follow the money. wtnhunt
They did that when I was in school over 20 years ago. To be honest I am not sure if the schools here do it. Dont think they do, but parents are supposed to call in to the school if students are going to be out, and we always do. Guess if we did not, they might call us, dont know. JoshM
Our school must hate us. I've never got a call home when we forget to call in.

nativetexan
Both the daycare center and the elementary school here do it. If my boys aren't in class by 9:30 a.m., my phone is ringing. I did pose the question the first time it happened and was told it was for two reasons. (1) being concern for the child, and (2)since the daycare receives funding from the state they have to keep track of absences for funding purposes. But, I have a great relationship with both places and them calling usually leads to a lengthy conversation just to b.s.
Tominator
Yep, but more for truancy than abductions.
Guest Andrea
I get an email. If I keep one of my kids home from school for being sick or a dental/doctor appt then I always get an email but never a phone call.......
Randyman
Our School District does this. It is an excellent idea.
