craig mack
Just heard on the radio that Johan was involved in a 5 player trade to the Mets. Not sure who else was involved.
rhine16
Oh that is not good for my Braves! Mets had to give someone or something big up in return. Will be interesting to see who it was.

craig mack
It says on ESPN (the devil) that 4 propects were involved and that he has to pass a physical and agree to a contract extension.
Tominator
Cool. Out of the AL, and even better out of the AL Central.

MCH
Yeah, they've been leaning towards the Mets the last couple of days. I'm surprised the Yanks didn't pull out all stops to get him.
muggs
The Twinkies waited too long on this one. From what I'm hearing, they didn't really get any can't miss prospects in this deal like they could have if they would have dealt with the Yankees for Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera. Oh well, at least they got something for him, and I can't say I'm sad to see him leave the AL Central either (even though my boy Fausto worked him twice last year). btw- I'm also starting to wonder if the Twins really pulled something over on the Mets here. You look at his last 9 or 10 starts of last season and he sorta got shelled. I'm also hearing rumors that his velocity is way down and he's lost the bite to his slider. Wouldn't that be very Met-like if this is a flop trade?
buckbuster11
Good deal for the Mets as long as they don't get the second half of last season Santana. I would expect him to be a 20 game winner if healthy this year for the Mets who by the way just won the NL East with this trade. I agree with muggs though, I dont know what the crap the Twins are thinking. They could have had a number of big name can't miss prospects from the Red Sox or Yankees instead they waited to long and had to settle for a group of mid level prospects. Guest Wackmaster17
Well being a life long Twins fan, not Twinkies Muggs, they had to deal him because his price was to high to sign him to an extension. Then with his last few starts Muggs if you would look up his run support you would see why he wasn't doing so well. He also said after they traded Luis Castillo to the Mets that he didn't want to stay with a team that only looks to the future to win and not on winning now. I still think though that Bill Smith, the Twins rookie GM, could have got more for him. Only 2 of the prospects of had any major league experience and another one is only 18 years old. I just hope that in a few years that this deal will turn into the trade the Twins did a few years ago sending A.J. Pierzynski to the Giants for Joe Nathan, one the best closers in the MLB, Boof Bonser, and lefty phenom Francisco Liriano. All I can do is wait and hope it was a good deal. I hope that Santana makes NL batters look as silly as he did to batters in the AL. Good luck Johan!
Bowtech_archer07
Very scary for the rest of the NL is all I have to say. Very scary. I think that the Twins def. got the worst end of the deal though. I was watching Sportscenter and the Twins didn't even get the Mets #1 prospect. MCH
They're reporting that a deal has been done for about 22 mil per year. Sounds about right.

rhine16
That stinks for the Braves. You aint kidding That'll put McCann and Johnson lefty on lefty with him, and turn Chip and Tex around to the right side.

MCH
not a done deal yet...... I'd be VERY surprised if this fell through. If they're as close as people are saying, the Mets will not let him slide. Deal Almost Done
MCH
Deal is finally done. When the smoke clears, it looks like the contract will be roughly just over 150 mil for 7 years.
CampRAGS
good for the Mets, they need an ace

Deal Almost Done I too never thought the deal wasn't going to go through... But I do question what the Mets were waiting on......They knew what he wanted.... Now will he be as dominant in the NL as he was the AL......lots of pitchers change leagues and are not nearly as good......It will be fun to watch
ruttinbuc
In 1968 the average salary of a Major League baseball player was $20,000. $150,000,000 over 7 years is obscene.

Guest Wackmaster17
And just think, he doesnt even play everyday!!! Trust me, he is worth every bit of the $137 million contract and the Mets will be very happy with him. I just can't wait and see him make all the NL batters look as silly as he did the AL batters here for so long. Mets, my new favorite NL team, sorry Braves!
