Turkeygirl
oSo after clinical today...drove down to the hunting shop. It's basically one of the few pro shops relatively close....that does guns and archery. The guys there are really helpful and outgoing. A few years back I remember I rushed there one evening to get an arrow rest and they were just closing, had the lights off...let me in...found the rest for $40 and they just gave it to me for that price..didn't charge tax. Anyway talked the older guy there who is really nice and helpful. Told him I was looking for a gun for turkey...maybe deer. Asked about my arm length...showed me how to determine how the gun should fit. Find out my gun I'm using right now, the Mossberg 500 20 ga...is big and cumbersom because it is! He hands me a new Mossberg 500 20 ga. Bantam in full camo with fiber optic sights on it. Told me this is built for women and smaller framed people. WOW! That is one sweet fitting and feeling gun! The forearm barely rattles! I don't have to slide my hand up to reach the trigger. I think it had a 22" barrel maybe.I think we may have a winner. And he can order in a slug barrel for it if I want..I think he said it's like $156 for the barrel which is the cheapest I've heard of. Anyway this gun was $331 there....have no idea how much elsewhere...anyone know? Anyone seen this gun out? It wasn't even shown on the Mossberg website..must be new? In comparison, he had a Remington youth gun and it felt heavier to me and the way the safety is...awkward for a lefty. Anyone shooting or got kids with a Bantam? Hear good or bad things? I think I may go with this gun and keep it strictly for turkey and deer and use me "oversized" Mossberg 500 20 ga for small game....though I was thinking I could sell it...but it's a good "beat the brush" gun. woodsman2230
shotguns are just like bows....you gotta shoot the one that feels the best. Good luck!
Bowtech_archer07
That gun was actually my first shotgun ever when I started hunting in 1998. The short stock and forearm were great for me as a 10 yr. old kid. I had it in the natural finish and got the field, turkey combo for it as well. That gun killed a few deer for me, including my biggest ever, 138" 10 point in 2002. What was nice about the gun was when I got older we could purchase the full-size stock and forearm for it, which we did, and I still shoot that gun every once in a while although I have a Mossberg 500 12 ga. in full camo now that I hunt with. Washi
The Remington being heavier might be better because you would have less recoil. Plus I'm pretty sure the safety can be changed to left hand.
