silvertip_co
Saturday Dawn and I met Huck and dau (from another hunting site) at Waffle House for a huge breakfast and had a great time visiting and eating a big greezy breakfast. We had our friend Ronald with us from another hunting site, a teen from Gypsum whom I supervised on his elk hunt in October. We took one group foto that I'll link when I get it downloaded. We had a great time eating and visiting then went off downtown to the Outdoor Exp. Sorry you couldnt make it SteveB, we missed ya. For the first hour we all walked together thru the show together. It was very difficult to stay together and see the displays due to the 76,000 people there crowding the aisles. But we had a great time anyway seeing all the outfitters and stuff. After the first hour Ronald got itchy and wanted to go see the all the 4wd trucks at the show, a few mins later we lost track of Huck ( in his new camo pattern shirt he was marketing, the only one like it at the show ) and his dau and never did run into them again. So we walked and looked and shopped for the next 4 hours. Dawn wanted to see 22' camper trailers so we toured them a lot. I talked long to Ike Eastman about his great mtn goat hunt and the extreme degree of difficulty that he went thru which is immediately obvious to anyone who sees that particular show on TV. I told him I was still shivering form the cold just from watching that show.It dang sure wasn't Hollywood or a tree stand ranch hunt. I wanted to talk to dad Mike Eastman, as they had two separate booths as well as the huge mulie display, but there was so many people at the main Eastman booth that I couldnt even get close to talk to pop. I did run into the local boy that killed the new state record mulie buck last fall near Woodland Park. It scored 306+ and he was at the show with Eastmans meeting and greeting everyone. They mounted his buck and displayed it for him. He was very appreciative of all the attention the buck brought and said his dad was very very proud of him and his buck. He was thankful to the Eastman family for all their efforts to show it. Thought maybe we'd run into Chad Shearer also but we didnt. I did see him elk calling on tv on Fri. I think we missed some of the outfitter displays and shows and talks due to the crowds. The next hour we ran into my 'spotter' Jeff from another hunting site. He spotted for antelope for me two yr ago when I had a RFW ranch tag. Hes a great young man also. His folks in Calif had bought him a turkey hunt for Christma$ so he was shopping for a outfitter. We ran into him again later and he had bought a hunt in KS for three days. I told him I'd take him out for free in spring gobb season out back of Pueblo. He kind of looked shocked that we had turkeys here in Colo, LOL. ( he's from Calif). I think he and I will be spending lots more time in the woods together in the future as he is 110% hunting. Much much later I stumbled onto the grey 2008 Dordge Power Wagon 2500 they had on display, replete with factory 12k# winch. That ended the show for me as I spent a half hour crawling around that truck while Dawn looked at the smaller 4wd SUV. $43.7k for the truck. Now, where did I put my cookie jar. After 5 hours we was bushed so we met up with Ronald again, had a sandwich and left. Dawn went to home and I took Ronald back to Gyspsum. On way from Gysum to Leadville I drove right by Elkatraz3. All that was vsible there was the top half the stop sign above the five feet of snow at the dirt road where it comes out near Pando. It was a great looooong day. ------------------------------------------------------------------- The next Denver show is an all big game hunting show July 25th weekend. texastrophies
Sounds like you had a great time. I would love to make one of those shows. We have them here, but of course they are more geared towards the whitetails. So what color are you going to get the PW in? Could probably get a package deal with the trailer. :D:D
