bluelund79
Is the rod a baitcasting rod or is it a spinning rod. If it is a spinning rod, get a baitcasting rod. There are alot of nice rods out there that arebudget rods. If you're budget minded Berkley has Lightning rods that are very nice for around 40 bucks. If you want a better rod, look at St.Croixs, they range from from 70-200 bucks. Have fun....
DU_man_84
normally with a baitcaster you want to go a little longer for better casting or flipping accuracy, i would go a minimum of a 6'6' rod to maybe a 7' foot rod, anything over 7 i dont like personal preference, rods to look into depending on your situation would be st croix if ya want, my favorite baitcasting rod is a zebco gatorback MH, they dont make them anymore, and i love this rod for casting and pitching and flipping, it has a really stiff back bone and a real sensitive tip for flipping the mats and weeds, its just a preference thing really some people are more comfortable with lengths and sizes, but st. croix is great rod to look into for a baitcaster rod
muggs
Yeah, I'd say a 7' baitcasting rod with a stiff butt section and flexible tip section would be best. I personally don't like baitcasting as a fishing technique though. Those Pro bass guys really crack me up. They use 20 lbs. test to catch bass that average a few pounds. Then they set the hook so hard they usually rip the fish right out of the water and into their boats. It's almost like combat fishing or something. Texan_Til_I_Die
Heck yeah, I use 65 lb braid a lot of the time! When one hookset could win me a brand new fully rigged Ranger bass boat, I don't want to take a chance on breaking off.
muggs
If a bass bites on 65 lbs. test, I'm not sure what that says about the intelligence of the bass. Sorry, it's cool, I like bass fishing...not trying to stir the pot, and those bass guys really know how to pattern them. I just like really gearing down and going after big fish. I'm sorta silly with how into that I get.
preacherman
I use a 7 foot Bass Pro extreme rod and love it. If money is tight like it is at my house right now, then I would look at Wal Mart at some of the Shakesphere rods. They make a little rod that is about $15 and I use those on some of my baitcasters as well.
jerdanmagic
If a bass bites on 65 lbs. test, I'm not sure what that says about the intelligence of the bass. Im guessing he's talking braided line not mono or flouro. Braided is much stronger but still maintains a small diameter so its not as visble.
