Guest damonedelen
My dad and I are going to try to go Elk hunting this year for the first time. I have a buddy who is letting us stay in Santa Fe, that is if one of us is lucky enough to draw in. I am currently trying to figure out the whole draw process, could someone tell me the hunt regions I should try to draw in for around Santa fe. Thanks

tped
http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/ Here is the website - go into the hunting section and they ahve all the maps and info you need. Give detailed drawing odds analysis for your zone. Most of the info is in pdf files so easily downloaded and printed. There are detailed maps of the zones with specific hunt codes. I think applications are due around end of March with drawing in June. You and your dad can go on same app so if one draws - both do - I think it helps the odds some. I hunt archery with an outfitter in a zone SW of Sante FE and have drawn 2 of last 3 years so not impossible.
Guest WY Hunter
I hunted the Gila area in 05 it was an awsome hunt, New Mexico is a relatively easy state to apply for, do your research on draw odds, there are some units with terrible odds but big bulls, and vice-versa, just depends on what you are looking for. Best of luck to you.
