Scope for 22 target shooting

I've been doing some informal target shooting with a 22 LR at ranges from 25 to 125 yards. I haven't been too successful with judging my "hold over" at the longer ranges. I've tried using some scopes with finger adjustable elevations, but I really don't like changing the dial that often. I was wondering if anyone has used any of the target scopes with multiple reticles or perhaps the Burris with the Ballistic Plex? The Burris looks like it would allow the shooter to hold "dead on" with one of the marks at almost any range.

Ideas, comments or suggestions?

Re: Scope for 22 target shooting

It depends a lot on the rifle I'm sure, but don't you think you may be asking a little too much from a 22LR?

25-50-even 75 and sometimes 100, but 125?

I think you may be asking too much out of a little 36-40grn bullet. Just my opinion, and I realize the opinions of others may vary. .....popgun

Re: Scope for 22 target shooting

I hope you are using standard velocity ammo if you plan to hit much past 85 yards. The high velocity stuff goes subsonic and can start to wander significantly past 80 yards. Standard velocity stuff is slower, but it is much more consistant. Wind is a big factor for the little rimfire at long range. What seems like a light breeze can cause a 12" group at 100 yards easily.

I have a Burris Ballistic Plex on my Knight Disc Elite and it works well. I would use one for a multi range rimfire gun. You will need to check the actual POI of the groups vs the reticle hash marks. Another option is to get a custom Leupold from Premier Reticles. Once you have your favorite load set up and know how much the difference is in POI at the different ranges, you can tell them where you want the dots. But they are a little on the expensive side. I have one of their scopes and it works great.

Re: Scope for 22 target shooting

Thanks for the info guys. I've tried the subsonic rounds but they don't always have enough energy to knock over the silhouettes at the 100 and 125 range. I've been using the CCI Mini Mags and haven't noticed the groups opening up too much, but I might try some other loads and see what happens. There's a 60 gr subsonic load in Cabela's that I'm going to order and try out.
