Covehnter
How do yall that display entire capes put yours on the wall. I've got them down pat until it comes time to hanging them on the wall. The one i have on the wall i used pins and just put them through the cape in several spots and into the drywall, it has done fine for awhile but now i've noticed the fan has become jagged like some of the tailfeathers are being pulled in while others are layin' out. Anyone got any better recommendations, gotta get some of these things outta the floor and on the wall.
Guest turkeynutz64
I always salt mine til seasons are over then trim em up and clean the nasties off. Then give em to my indian freind that makes dance fans and costumes! I give the wings to an old man that makes fletching with em, and indian jewelry with spurs and toe nails! I only keep my biggest beard and spurs each season!

huntn4bucks
I have several turkey capes in the freezer but until I get a bigger room I don't have any place to put them.
elnor
I have a Rob Keck-style cape (tail and back feathers but not wings) that I mounted on a piece of plywood covered with deer leather: I used WB Place for the hide tanning, then cut and stretched parts of two hides, stapling on the back of the plywood, to cover the whole board (note the seem between the two hides in the pic). I also nailed a hanger on the top back to make it easier to hang from one nail on the wall. Then I used small diameter nails to attach the cured cape, being very careful not to tear it or mess up the feathers. Let me know if you have more questions about it. It's not perfect, but it was my first time. I'm planning to have another go this spring and might try doing a full cape including the wings, too, if I can figure out the best way to include the wing feathers without leaving too much meat or bone in them for support (any tips for that?). elkoholic
Here is how I had one of mine done. It takes up a lot of wall space this way.
GobblerBuster618
Never have done that with my birds but it does look pretty neat!
PA_Spike_King
This isn't the cape type but this is how my father and I display ours. http://www.hunt101.com/data/526/medium/28635Turk_fans_on_Wall.jpg
elnor
Did you use a taxidermist for your full cape, elkoholic? I'd like to do one of my to-be-killed-this-spring toms that way myself, but haven't found any instructions anywhere. If anyone has pointers to a "howto" or tips for skinning the body out to do the full cape elkoholic has, please let me know. Thanks in advance. elkoholic
Yes, I did use a taxidermist. I would have to think that anyone with some taxidermist skills could do it, although I have never seen another one like it. I hope to take a good sized Merriam and have it done the same way. WHISKEYSWAMP
Here are a couple of mine... they are mounted to a piece of panel board with a hook to hang on the wall. I'm not sure how my taxidermist mounted the cape to the board though... haven't really looked at it that close.
