Guest Andrea
Autopsy ( toxicology report) confirms it was an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. I'm sure that is somewhat "good" news for his family and not death by something like cocaine or meth or whatever. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,328828,00.html
NS whitetail
I feel real bad for his family, but, can someone explain how to you accidentally overdose ?
Guest Andrea
I feel real bad for his family, but, can someone explain how to you accidentally overdose ? It was actually the combination of all those prescription meds that killed him. He mixed them when he shouldn't have. Oxycontin ( pain med) is bad stuff. Mix that with sleeping meds and anxiety meds and it's lethal.

Leo
I feel real bad for his family, but, can someone explain how to you accidentally overdose ? Pain Killers + Sleep Aids = BAD NEWS Many sleep aids affect short term memory. So he could have forgotten he'd already taken the Pain Killers. Most Pain Killers have reduced effect the more you take them. So he probably felt like he needed to take more as well. He was taking Oxy Contin which is notoriously addictive. It is absolutely possible he had no idea what he was doing.
PotashRLS
How do you get prescription pain killers and all the other stuff without actual for real injuries and/or ailments. (Obviously Dumb Question) These drugs without prescriptions should be no different than illegal narcotics. Who got them for him? Are they accountable in some fashion? If you sold alcohol to a minor (which is illegal) and they killed themselves or others with their car, you certainly will be tracked down. Am I on target here? bfletch7441
It is absolutely possible he had no idea what he was doing. Sounds to me like he was a drug addict, and it's blatantly obvious to me that none of them have any idea what they're doing. Ben
Leo
Folks, If you get nothing else out of this thread, please heed the following warning. And trust me. I'm speaking from PERSONAL experience here. I have flat been through the wringer on prescription drugs because of my injuries. If you are taking ANY combination of prescription drugs (especially crucial if these prescriptions are from different doctors) make sure you understand the possible side effects and long term effects of each medication. Sometimes you can be taking multiple meds for the sole purpose of combating the side effects of another med. The result is you are taking far more meds than you need to. Make certain you understand which medications are OFF LIMITS when you are taking a certain med. Surprisingly, some prescription meds make taking certain non-prescription meds and "supplements" very dangerous. Sometimes the non-script stuff completely negates the desired effect of the script. One example is several high blood pressure medications are rendered completely ineffective by AFRIN. If you neglect to tell the doctor about AFRIN he just ups your script dosage. This is not good. Another example, alcohol is a major no-no with most sleep aids. It doesn't make them work better, typically it causes the opposite effect. This is a prescription trap. It's far more common than most folks realize.
Guest Andrea
There's no doubt that Heath Ledger was a drug addict. And he took the hard stuff. But in this case all they found in his system were the prescription meds. So sad for his little girl.
DU_man_84
but these days with the media anyone will pay somebody off to keep it quiet that someone truly was a drug addict and they dont want anyone to know
buckee
Sometimes you can be taking multiple meds for the sole purpose of combating the side effects of another med. The result is you are taking far more meds than you need to. Yep, that's where I'm at right now Leo. Now I have to wean myself off of the one drug. I also got these really powerful sleeping pills, back in July, to help me sleep, before I got these anti-depressants to combat the effects of the Hormones, I was on. The doctor never warned me, NOT to take the sleeping pills any more, but I knew just from common sense, not to go there. The problem is that doctors are way too free with handing out prescription, without going back in the patience history to see what exactly they are already on, and advising them to quit taking this, before taking that. stevebeilgard
and don't forget that on top of all his prescriptions, there may have been asperine, cough medecine, and of course alcohol. just a few drinks could upset the scale a bunch. i'm guessing he simply did not know what he was doing. wtnhunt
It is absolutely possible he had no idea what he was doing.Dont know the guy in question, nor do I know his situation, but from the sounds of the reports it is likely he was sick and possibly accidentally took more than he intended to without meaning to end his life. Guess I would not be so quick to assume his intentions.
unioncountyslayer
What's the difference in being addicted to cocaine, meth, etc. and being addicted to prescription drugs? There isn't a difference. Obviously the guy was addicted to both types, and both types are lethal. Famous/Wealthy people can get their hands on prescription drugs when in fact they probably don't even need half if any that they are taking. And if they were "honestly" prescribed, don't you think he would have been warned about the side effects and fatallity possiblility of mixing them? Just because they were prescription drugs doesn't excuse his stupidity in taking them and becoming addicted to them. JMHO
Guest Finn
Can't see how they can prove either way if it were accidental or suicide. No matter which, he had the world by the tail and chose to abuse drugs.
