johnf
My nephew has a 300 savage that was his dads. Someone told him that the 300 would shoot 30-30 shells. I told him that they didn't know what they were talking about. He insisted, so I told him I would ask an expert. Experts?
terry264
No way john, it will not shoot 30-30 shells, not even same type case, and he could possible blow it up trying to do so. Only shoot what it calls for=.300 Savage
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
No way would a 300 sav shoot 30-30 cartridges. The 300 savage is a rimless cartridge as are most modern cartridges. The 30-30 is a rimmed case. Even if you could get a 30-30 case in the chamber the bolt will not go into battery and if fired it most likely would be the last cartridge to be fired in that rifle and possibly the last round to be shot by the shooter. It is that dangerous.

OJR
Never happen! Crazy idea! The cases are not even close to each other!
Shaun_300
That's a load of bull, there's no way possible a .30-30 would shoot out of a .300 Savage, not even close to the same cartridge.

Strut10
I don't think.......even if you could get the action to close with a 30/30 cartridge in the chamber......that it'd be tight enough inside the gun to fire at pin-strike. hangunnr
The picture from left to right shows a 308 Winchester, a 300 Savage and a 30-30. As you can see there is quite a difference between the Savage and the 30-30. I believe the larger rim of the 30-30 would prevent it's being chambered in the Savage. hangunnr
