DSGB
Well, I just spent the last 40 or so minutes typing a reply to the "Dippers Unite" thread about how bad the stuff was for you, only to hit the submit button and get a message stating "invalid thread" or something like that. I'll just say this: I quit dipping after close to 10 years. Cold turkey! I haven't had one in over nine months (since 4-16-07)! If you dip, do yourself a favor and look up some of the ingredients in smokeless tobacco. Some are categorized as nuclear waste (Polonium 210)!!! Others are N-Nitrosamine (cancer-causing), Formaldehyde (embalming fluid), Nicotine (addictive drug), Cadmium (used in car batteries), Cyanide, Arsenic, Benzene, Lead (nerve poison). One other thing...... This will be post # 4000!
OJR
Congratulations on 4K! As to dipping, it sure has some great ingredients in it! WOW!

Shawn
why did that post get deleted though, when there have been open discussions about types of beer certain people on here like to drink. also i know this is a family site but nothing being discussed was or is illegal. Just curious btw congrats on the 4000 Dsgb, that must've been one heck of post to be 40 minutes worth!
DSGB
btw congrats on the 4000 Dsgb, that must've been one heck of post to be 40 minutes worth! I was finding links to post backing up what I had to say. I'll admit that I was interrupted a few times, so actual time was only about 30 minutes. I would have a lot more than 4000 posts if I didn't get interrupted by work and family. :D:D Thanks for all the congrats! I appreciate it! DU_man_84
ive been chewing for 9 years now and it is an extremely hard habit to kick, i wish i could stop it but its so hard, i keep telling myself one of these days im gonna stop, congrats on 4k too, the other thing i wanted to add wich i cant figure out is bout 2 years ago at the dentist it was my first time in like 7 years, after the check up and all he asked if i chewed and i said yeah, well he shows me the charts and the pics and told me i was on stage 3 out of 4 for gum disease ok and he told me if i kept it up for another year id be at stage 4, well my recent check up 2 years later, been chewing the same since before he tells me my gums look normal and seem healthy, same dentist and all, i couldnt figure it out,
Guest Andrea
My husband has seen the ingredients, seen the pictures of the men whose jaws have been removed due to cancer, has seen the price of each can of snuff go up to almost $6 each.......and none of it has convinced him to quit. You'd think that raising two influential little boys would help in that decision but it has not. Yes, he's tried to quit but it has a hold on him like a vice. Tried the nicotine patch, the gum, sunflower seeds and going cold turkey.
DSGB
You just have to make up your mind that you want to do it. If you don't really want to, then it's not gonna happen. I tried a couple times before that were unsuccessful, but at the time, I didn't really want to quit. You will just talk yourself into doing it again. I read about guys who's lives were ruined because they had to have half their face removed (jaw bone, tongue, lip, etc). I didn't want to be one of them. I want to be around to see my daughter grow up and not be the guy with the weird face. I realized that it had me under it's thumb, and that's not some place I wanted to be. I knew the longer I continued to dip, the harder it was going to be to quit. Looking at how much I spent on the stuff was a factor, as well. I've saved over $1300 (can a day) since I've quit. The companies that make the stuff don't care about you or your health. All they want is your money. I wasn't going to support them and risk my health at the same time. It was hard to sit and watch a baseball game without doing it. I thought it was going to be real hard to sit in the deer stand without dipping, but by the time deer season rolled around, I was over it. It just becomes part of your life after a while. Part of your daily routine. It is a very hard habit to break. You have to change your whole lifestyle, it seems. Once you do quit, though, you'll realize how stupid it was. Whenever you want a dip, just tell yourself that you are stronger than it is and you're not gonna let it control you. You may have to do that 10-20 times a day, but if you give in just once, you lose.
buckbuster11
You just have to make up your mind that you want to do it. If you don't really want to, then it's not gonna happen. That's all you need to know right there. I think most people that try and fail are not 100% committed to actually quit. They know they should do it so they try to quit, but don't really want to do it and they end up going back to it. I chewed for 9+ years up until last New Years when I decided I was a big fan of having gums, teeth, and mouth for the rest of my life. Plus I was sick of being addicted and controlled by a substance like nicotine. 13 months later, I haven't had a dip since and at this point it rarely crosses my mind. Piece of cake. Shawn
thats great for you guys. you did what you thought was right for you and thats great. me, ill keep dipping. and for i also havent gotten an answer to my post asking why the dippers unite post got deleted. the many of you will say how dipping is bad and so on and so on. people are going to do what they want. People on here are so quick to jump on the negative bandwagon. when i got tattoed last year and posted pics i hear how bad it is and so on and what it does to your life. when i get tattooed on feb 13th i will post pics again and all the tattoo haters will come out and say itll ruin your life. got news for you. i have a union job that accepts them, plus my foreman has more tats than me. and ill hear the "oh you got to live with them forever". really? i didnt realize that while i sat for 5 1/2 hours getting one tattoo. But in the same respect every time i dip i MIGHT be contributing to adding to lip or gum cancer. thats just my opinion, bunch of you will look down on it. but so be it. so if i want to dip, the side of the can says the warnings and ill deal with them. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
i also havent gotten an answer to my post asking why the dippers unite post got deleted. It's a family site thats why . Making a reference to dipping, or someone mentioning they had a cold beer or something in a thread is one thing. But there is no need for anyone to start threads on either matter. There are kids that visit the forums, no need for them to read what someones "flavor" is. Threads like that have NEVER been allowed, not since I've been here anyways. there have been threads like that, and beer threads that someone started, but they were deleted just as fast. I'm sure a mod can and will elaborate mroe on it, but bottom line, they aren't allowed.
