blacktailslayer
Just thought I would let people know that I have had the worst luck trying to find a vitamin/mineral supplement that my blacktail herds would eat/lick. I finally decided to add it in my Nutrena All Breed and cracked corn feed mix and the deer finally eat it. I'm using Whitetail Institute 30-06 and loose red trace minerals. Hope this helps for people wanting to give their deer minerals with the same luck I have had over the years.
wtnhunt
What did you try? For minerals, trophy rocks here seem to work really well.

Guest Finn
Here's the homemade mix we use: 3 bags - trace mineral salt 1 bag - Hi phosphorus minerals 1-1 1 bag - Dicalcium phosphate 1 bag - Dried molasses All bags are 50 pounds We mix equal parts in a old cement mixer and then pour that into a 55 gallon drum and cover it. We pick this up at a Fleet Farm in Wis...check a local feed store. It's much cheaper than retail mixes. We pour it out 2 gallons at a time every few months. Strut10
I've had good luck with: 2 bags red trace mineral salt 2 bags di-cal phosphate 1 bag white salt (Morton, etc.) Mix and spread 2 1/2 gal. scub bucket full on a worked up patch of dirt 3 or 4 feet in diameter. Freshen 3x or 4x yearly. Finn's right. It's a whooole lot cheaper to mix your own.
dogdoc
How long have you had your mineral lick out? Sometimes it takes them a while to find it and remember--mineral requirements are much higher in the spring and summer--I get very little activity in the winter but when spring hits and everything starts to green up the deer hit the mineral stations pretty hard. blacktailslayer
Deer Supplements Thanks Finn, I will try that one. I tried the one you mentioned Strut10, but with no luck. I have been trying to put out minerals for 4 years know and yes the spring and summer time. The only way I thought I would be able to get these deer to take their multi vitamin/mineral supplement was to add it to their food. I will have to try Finn new recipe, since it has molasses in it and I know the deer love the All Breed feed with molasses.
