wishinone
Was reading through other post and saw that someone lost a chain on stand and the climbing stick that went with it. Same thing happened to me this year, only got to use the stand one time, plus lost two ladder stands. How many others lost stands this year? wtnhunt
Re: Lost Stands That is too bad. I detest thieves. Someone would have to be really bold to steal any of our ladder stands from behind the house and would be kind of tough for them to get them out of here without us knowing it. Tominator
Re: Lost Stands There's a big difference between lost and stolen. Personally, I've had 3 stands stolen over the years. No more though, I'm done with chain ons. I can only be fooled so many times.
hobie
Re: Lost Stands What I do is but a bike chain lock if they want it bad enough they will cut the chain but it still makes them work for it

Ohiobucks
Re: Lost Stands Had one stolen about 7-8 years ago. Man that makes you mad. Getting in there well before first light, walking right to your tree, and everything is gone! Talk about getting fired up!
DSGB
Re: Lost Stands I had my seat chewed up by squirrels, but never had one stolen. That must suck. I would be extremely PO'd if I got to where my stand was supposed to be and it wasn't. There were two stands, that I know of, stolen from the management area that I hunted during bow season. At least I can get revenge for what happened to mine. Squirrel season is open!
VTbowman
Re: Lost Stands Never had any stolen. But then again I go to extremes to keep mine where I put them. However if one ever wanders off I will tip my hat to the guy. He would of definately deserved the stand if he can get it off the tree and carry it by hand out of the woods.. LOL Home-made all welded steel chain on stands with 3/8 chain and master locks. The stands weighs at least 50# if not more and that no kidding... I use my atv's winch to get them up and down... Most stands have 1/2x8" lag bolts for steps too. No hand turning tree steps there... LOL Evertything is locked. But you know as well as I do. If they want it it will be taken. If they want mine then they will need some serious tools to get them.. The occasional passer-by will not even bother trying... JMO
VermontHunter
Re: Lost Stands I'll atest to that fact..LOL...if you want one of VTbowmans stands you'll have better luck trying to remove the whole tree....He has one of the most secure methods of treestand anti-theft systems I've ever seen... hutchies
Re: Lost Stands I have a treestand lock and a lock on the chain which I wrapped around my ladder. No one has tried so far. My buddy had his ladder at his stand stolen. Someone came in with a pair of bolt cutters and cut his chain that was on it. But they left the stand. too_pointer
Re: Lost Stands I didn't lose any this season, but I also didn't tree hunt either I have had stolen at least 6 in the last few years, some were just blown to bits by bird hunters. I had one stolen the day before the opener after I had spent weeks getting it ready, it sure took the wind out of my sails !! I got "lucky" one day, as I was putting out some deer goodies, a truck pulled up and the people were climbing my tree, in full sight of me. They even had chain cutters in their hands. LOL. I bet it was the last stand they tried to steal for awhile I also hope the tire I poked gave them some trouble !! Scum of the earth !! I always had 2 chains with locks on every stand. too_pointer
snapper
Re: Lost Stands The only stand that can't get stolen is the one you don't leave in the woods. Chains and locks are no match for bolt cutters...like slicing butter. Only takes a few seconds to snip off a Master lock. I don't leave any stands in area's I think they may end up "lost".
