buckee
From observation over the years, this is my take on aging deer. (blacktails,) I know genetics and food play a big roll too. Aging Deer How do you Whitetail and Mulie hunters compare ?
Randy
IF I were to try and age a whitetail by it's horns I would say your 2 1/2 looks like a 1 1/2 by us. Your 3 1/2 looks like a 4 1/2 year old or older around here.
wtnhunt
Guess that is good if you have a dead deer Steve. Bet you could come up with some field judging tips and pics.
Leo
The horn method isn't as accurate as many folks think. Randy has it right. You can only "try" to age by horns. Around here jawbone evidence might show your "1 1/2 yr old" to be older than your "2 1/2 yr old". Yep that means sometimes our 1 1/2 year olds can branch out like that. This will really sink in when you start pulling jawbones. http://www.howtoagedeer.com
Tom2008
The 3 1/2 skull are whitetail antlers. Isn't that kind of odd to be using that in a Blacktails age chart?

There a few things like genetics and food souces, can can make you misjudge a deers age, by only going by the Antlers. Being born early or late also makes a huge difference.
