poi change with different ammo?

Tried out some different ammo yesterday I was planning to use on coyotes with the .243. The wife had been shooting 100 grain core lokts and I was shooting 1 inch groups with this savage model 10 at 100 yards.

Anyways, I shot one of these 80 grain winchester cxp1 varmint rounds and it hit really high. So I shot another high again. These are consistently hitting about 6 inches higher at 100 yards than where I had it sighted with the core lokts. Thinking maybe something happened to the scope, I made some elevation adjustments got it close with the winchester rounds and then shot a corelokt and it hit way low, so I ended up shooting about a half a box of shells and got it back where the core lokts are back on and guess I will just use them this weekend.

I figured there would be some difference, but I dont know how they are hitting so much higher. Anyone have a good explanation as to how the poi could change that much?

That 80 gr bullet is a little lighter!! I bet if you threw the 100 gr'ers in it would shoot right on like before.

6" is a lot but heck as long as you can adjust your scope that much, No big deal!

Agreed as long as the 80's are hitting in the same general area and are grouping nice...just high. Then I'd say you got your self a shooter.

Re: poi change with different ammo?

Its not uncommon to have a big change in POI with a 20% reduction in bullet weight. There should be a significant velocity difference also. That's why we stress checking POI on paper before trying out on game when a change is made.

Did you rest the barrel on something then not the next time?

Yeah Jim I shot a good steady rest with all the shots I took.
