wild_willie
I have M70 Coyote 243 very nice rifle shoots very good love it for deer but it's heavy. It's like 10lbs. I spend alot of time hunting small game also - squirrels, fox, woodchuck maybe even a coyote. Looking into a lighter rifle maybe in 22-250 I like the looks of the TC Icon and the Tika T3 Light. Both felt really good in the store. Sugestions,Opinions,Experience???
hangunnr
The T/C is still new and unproven. The Tikka is highly regarded by many. You may want to take a look at the Remington model 7. They are very light and compact. hangunnr
wild_willie
Thanks for the info hangunner. I did think about the model 7 they did'nt have one to check out in stock. I would also like to check out a Rem. model 799. Anyone have any thoughts on them?
TexasDeerHunter
I am a Remington man and would reccomend the Model 7, it is super short and super light. I would not reccomend the new mauser action Remingtons, they are not made in the us and I have not been impressed with their imports. Leo
I'd be amazed if the Icon ended up being more accurate than the T3. The T3 is a tough rifle to beat. I'm very fond of mine If you want to spend more money on a more accurate rifle, look at a Cooper Jackson hunter
doubleA
You might try giving a CZ 527 a look. The American models make a dandy walking varminter. They are based on a minitature Mauser action, have five shot magazine, single set trigger, sporter weight barrel walnut stocks and can be had in 22 hornet,221 Fireball,223 Rem and 204 Ruger. The other version is their varminter, it's available in walnut and synthetic stocks and have a heavier barrel contour. IMHO they are mucho better than the Zavasta that Remington imports if you like the mauser design. I think Remington quit making them, but the M700 LVSF is a nice weight varminter, it has a decent synthetic stock, short SS fluted barrel and a blind magazine. There are still a few NIB out there to be found.
Strut10
Might wanna lok at the Weatherby Vanguard Compact. Comes with a youth stock and an adult stock. Weighs 6 3/4 lbs. My kids both have one in .308 but it comes in 22-250 as well. My daughter's gun will go 1/2 MOA. The boy has yet to fire his. http://www.weatherby.com/products/guns.asp?prd=Rifles&prd_sub_type=3&prod_code=VGC223RR0O#
Guest T-Man14
What about a 25 WSSM. Winchester is making a rifle specifically for this caliber. Very light and compact. A little bigger than the 22-250 though.
wtnhunt
For a compact lightweight rifle would not rule out the browning A-bolt microhunter either. Lots of options, shoulder as many as you can and see which feels best to you.
wild_willie
I did check out a browning A-Bolt but not a micro hunter. Very impressed, they are up near the top of the list
