my first kill with a muzzleloader

Congrats deer!!! I got my muzzleloader for my birthday... went out the next day and got it sighted in. Then went to shoot it about 1 week before season just to check the zero, and I couldn't shoot a group with it. So I took my shotgun out, and the scope wouldn't hold a zero on it either. So now, I have to get a new scope on my shotgun and do a lot of shooting with my muzzleloader this spring so I can hunt with it next fall. Congrats again on the deer!!

Are you scrubbing clean after each shot? I find you get a better grouping with a slightly fouled barrel, and only do a quick swab and a dry off every 3-4 shots. Also, play around with the charge a little. Sometimes you go up or down a few grains of powder, and it makes all the difference in the world. (I also only use loose powder, as its easier to tinker with then the pre-measured pellets). Its just like hand loading ammo, only you have to build each shot as you load it, and start again after you fire :D

PS: Congrats on the deer. My very first deer was with the old smoke pole, and I've never been without one since.
