When i was young my whole family would go watch a albino doe in pennsylvania watched her every night for a long time lots of people found out about her, she came out in the same field every night then she disappeared word was somebody poached her. But a few years later a buddy of mine took me out to a secluded field a good ways back a showed me a albino six point he had been watching for a couple months they were really neat to see. That was probably 12-15 years ago or so.

I have never seen an albino or a piebald while hunting. I have seen a piebald mule deer in Washington and we had an albino whitetail at the local water works department. My daughter said " look dad a goat " when I looked it was an albino fawn. Pretty cool to share with my daughter.

These sheds were found April 3rd of 2007. They come from the albino buck pictured below. The neighbors have the sets from 2004 and 2005. These score around 185

If I recall correctly, there are a couple of giant albino's running around Buffalo County. There used to be an albino doe that we would go watch just about every night. She was regular as clockwork when coming out to the fields. Of course it helped that she stuck out like a sore thumb.

Not all white deer are true albinos. Often the white coloration is merely a different color phase. In other words they may not have the pink eyes, light colored nose and the lack of pigmentation in the hooves that true albinos have. Here in NY we have a herd of white (not albino) deer on what used to be the Seneca Army Depot which was a large, totally high fenced, area. They have both the conventional coloration and also a large percentage of pure white deer. Apparently, the white coloration genes are present in all deer, but recessive. It is theorized that the inbreeding caused by this fenced area allowed the recessive gene to become dominant in certain individuals.

I suspect that the white color phase of deer in the wild may be the result of similar genetic combinations. That is not to say that there is no such thing as true albino deer, because there definitely is. There is also a rare condition which occassionally produces a completely black deer. I have seen pictures of them, but have never heard of this color phase showing up here in NY.

We had a piebald fawn on the Strut10 Ranch several years back. It met a tragic demise. But we did get some pics of it beforehand. Right now we have a true albino doe. She'll be 3 years old this spring. She's had two batches of fawns so far.....all normal & brown. I've posted these pics before. But here they are again.

Not sure from what part of PA that you are from, but just across the border in sw delaware co., there is a town called Hancock. Two seasons ago, this fellow shot a real nice 8pt. true albino. Pink eyes and hooves. I believe that it weighed around 180 - 190. As rare as they are, this hunter said that there were four more with this one. This place is only half an hour from where i live, so maybe i might get lucky one day and see one for myself.
