shell advice

As far as I know Steve.

Even on the guns with removable chokes you should not try to push a Waterfowl (Steel or Non-Toxic) through a full choke.

I find that on every shotgun I've ever owned patterns steel and non-toxic as if it has been shot through a choke at least a step tighter. IE. Modified patterns like Full and IC patterns like a modified. I've experienced extra full performance from from some of the non-toxic stuff through a modified choke.

I'd worry about a fixed full choke and waterfowl loads. Maybe I'm overly cautious but personally I wouldn't risk it.

My dad has been using an old browning side by side with modified and full fixed chokes for years now. He shoots steel loads thru it but nothing bigger than #1's... Barrels are fine as far as i know, cant see any damage with a naked eye. Still patterns the same. I agree with Leo about the steel patterning a step tighter too... Im no expert so i cant say for sure either way on wether u should or shouldnt use it with steel.....better safe than sorry though

If that is the gun you chose to use, why not try one of the non-steel, non-toxic loads like heavy shot or bismuth.

For one, you only get ten shells for the price of a whole case...

Still, don't be fooled. Alot of the other non-toxic shot may be denser then steel, but all that lets you do is fire a smaller pellet with more energy. Most are still hard like steel. A Couple of the softer ones, more old-gun friendly, Bismuth and Tungston-Matrix from Kent Cartridge. Note, NOT Tungston-Iron, which is hard like Iron. Hevi-Shot should most definatly be shot out of a gun good to shoot steel.
