Lake Falcon Lunker

Just got back from a 4 day trip to Lake Falcon on the Texas - Mexico border. Fishing was only fair for numbers, I was catching 10 - 15 bass per day, but the quality was excellent. The big females were just starting to move into the shallow water to spawn. I found the pattern I needed late Friday. Heavy cover in 2.5 feet or less of water. Friday afternoon just before dark I caught a 4 pounder and a 3 pounder, then broke off a really big fish. That night I respooled one of my reels with 65 lb test Stren Superbraid. The next morning it was incredibly foggy, but I trusted my Lowrance GPS and it took me through 5 miles fog right back to the little unnamed creek where I had caught the fish. By the time the fog lifted around 10:00, I had caught 2 fish over 5 lbs, 2 more over 4 lbs, and about a half dozen between 2.5 and 3.5. The fishing slowed during midday, but late that afternoon I caught another 4 pounder and a 5 out of a different spot.

Sunday morning was fog free and I decided to make a 15 mile run deep into Mexico up the Rio Salado. The numbers improved slightly, but the quality went down. I only had one 5 pounder in the boat at 3:00 pm. I decided to run back down the Salado to the Rio Grande and head back to the little creek that I had fished the day before. It turned out to be a good move. About 5:00 that afternoon I flipped my 8 inch Zoom lizard into a bush in 2.5 feet of water and managed to wrestle this 9 lb 9 oz largemouth into the boat.

:eek::eek::eek:

After I had that big fish on Friday afternoon break off my 15 lb test Trilene Big Game in open water, I decided I needed a bigger weapon! I was also using an 8 foot heavy action graphite flippin' stick. :D

You know how us Off The Porch Ganger's are. ;)
