Guest Andrea
Whoever reports the weather for my area to the Weather Channel is an idiot. It never fails. I will check the wind on weather.com before I go hunting. But as soon as I step outside I learn the truth. If it says SE 10 mph you can bet your butt it is SW 10 mph. Won't rely on them anymore. wtnhunt
I dont put much faith in the weather channel forecasts, but I do look at them and at the maps they offer.
buckee
I never trust the weather channel, or the reports here either. They're just wrong, way too many times. I like looking at the satellite pics though, to get a better idea of what we may be in store for. ...either that or look out the window The long-range forcast is wrong 99% of the time. ksbowhntr77
Have you tried the local National Weather Service office forecast. It should be online, we use it here quite a bit and they seem to be pretty reliable.
WHISKEYSWAMP
I'd love to be a meteorologist... only job you can be wrong at and not get fired. The last two snow storms we were suppose to get up to 10"... we got a dusting last time and maybe a couple inches this time. 2 inches is less than 10, so I guess they can say they made an accurate forcast. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Most of the news channels around here hardly ever get the weather right. They'll call for 3-5 inches of snow, we'll get one, they'll call for 1 inch of snow, we'll get 3-5 I'll look at about about 3 differnet weather reports, most of them say something different. then again, the weather up here is weird, it could snow today and be in the 50s-60s tomorrow
Guest Andrea
You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to determine from which direction the wind is blowing.
Bowtech_archer07
The only reason I look at weather.com is to check the radar. Usually that is pretty accurate..... Normally Andrea, when I want to know the wind direction... I go outside!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
MCH
Andrea, for hunting purposes I usually use wunderground.com. They're a little more accurate than weather.com. Not sure if its the same for your area, but it gives me the name of the local guy that's reporting the current weather for them. He actually lives down the road from me. Guest Andrea
Yeah, I go outside too. But that's only good for the CURRENT winds. If you wanna know which way it will blow a few hours from now...don't look at weather.com. When I went to my stand yesterday it was blowing from the SW. Weather.com said it was the SE. Not a problem. I figured that out when I went outside. BUT---it also said the wind would continue from that direction til midnite. Right. 30 minutes after I sat down the wind shifted and stayed that way til I got down.
stevebeilgard
isn't it funny that no matter what state you are in, the local weather forcast is almost 100% wrong. yet, al gore can predict global warming a hundred or a thousand years in advance and few question him... Dubie
Weather for (insert area) Temp. -50 with a high of 110. Winds 0 with gusts ranging to 500mph. Up to 100 feet of precipitation. Cloudy, except when the sun is shining. It'll get dark during the evening hours.... I could be a meteorologist....
OJR
You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to determine from which direction the wind is blowing. ruttinbuc
Regardless of what the weatherman says you have to deal with what you are given at your hunting location. No controlling Mother Nature. If the wind shifts against your favor...MOVE!
LifeNRA
I dont put much faith in the weather channel forecasts, but I do look at them and at the maps they offer. Me too! The radars are normally pretty actuate. Regardless of what the weatherman says you have to deal with what you are given at your hunting location. No controlling Mother Nature. If the wind shifts against your favor...MOVE! In the area I hunt, the wind shifts every five minutes! No meteorologist would have any hair! Predicting the wind is the worst for them, on earth level. Now go up too about 10,000 feet, there they can! I like http://www.accuweather.com/ All weather comes from one source, NOAA!
TreeStandBowHunter
I have always said that the weather channel sucks. We never watch it except for the storm stories show. But as far as forcasting the weather, they suck. It's usually better to listen to a credible local news channel weather report.
Leo
Seriously, I like this site much better. It's the better weather site IMHO. http://www.wunderground.com For hurricane alerts this is THE SITE to watch. Seriously, no contest. Beautiful That was a good one Steve. I've actually found weather.com is usually close to being right regarding wind direction where I hunt in southwest MS. You still have to consider what the ridges, bottoms, etc. will do to redirecting the wind though for specific stand locations. I woke up to a big surprise one morning though. It was this strange looking white stuff. Obviously this wasn't in the forecast. Can't blame them too much though...they won't stick their necks out to forecast that stuff down here.
