dogdoc
Re: First year turkey hunting turkey hunting is a blast. you will definetely like it! nothing like a gobble in the early am hours. check out the National Wild Turkey Foundations web site--a lot of great info over there. www.nwtf.org todd
maddhunter
Re: First year turkey hunting When you think you have waited long enough for a gobbler to come in, wait a lot, lot longer!!!!! Scouting is the best tool, if the birds aren't there you can't call'em in.

Guest ronin
Re: First year turkey hunting Hunt with someone who knows the ropes the first few times. I think a new turkey hunter can really reduce the mistakes that way. A knowledgable turkey hunter can teach you set-up techniques, calling, and a wide range of other pointers that are important to make it work right. Guest gfourhunter
Re: First year turkey hunting ronin has a good point, hunt with a friend to show you the ropes. also watch some hunting shows. its not always as easy as they make it to be but it helps. once you start you will love it. 13littleones
Re: First year turkey hunting Be Safe ! Know your target ! It just might be "me" crawling on the ground. Bring some water, the spring days heat up fast. Good luck
Bruce Schmeck
Re: First year turkey hunting Be forewarned! Turkey hunting is a terrible (but pleasurable) addiction. You will lose lots of sleep. Exercise extreme caution at all times and also be aware of others sharing the woods with you. Do as much preseason scouting and patterning of the birds daily habits as possible. Pattern your shotgun and know its and your limitations. Get some calls and practice, practice, practice. I'd try to become proficient with one at a time. As stated, try to hook up with someone who already knows the ropes and is ethical. Most guys will be more than willing to share their knowledge with you if you show a genuine interest (except for their honeyholes of course). Keep an eye out here and ask questions.
