oldreloader
For those that have owned both the Grand Ol' Man and the Summit Goliath, which do you prefer and why?
maytom
I never owned the Ol'Man stands, but I do own the Summit Viper "Goliath" model. Love the Goliath climber quite a bit!! It's 3 1/2" wider on the top section and rated to 350 lbs., that's one reason I went with that one over the regular Viper. The only thing I didn't like about the Ol'man climbers was that they looked like there wasn't enough room on the top section to sit into, due to the closeness of the top side rails wrapping so close around the tree??? unioncountyslayer
Sorry I can't answer about these larger climbers, but I have owned both Ol' Man and Summit. Once I bought my Summit, I sold my Ol' Man and bought another back-up Summit. To me, the Summit's are much more comfortable, especially if you like to sit for long hours. They go on the tree much faster (easier set-up) and from what I remember are a good bit lighter. I'm a Summit climber for life!
HUNTINGMAN
I am 6'2" and weigh around 250lb,I loved my regular old man but out grew it.I then bought a lone wolf and after it I will never own anything else.I have used summit and dont think they were for me,to awkward and noisy. wtnhunt
Cannot speak for the ol man stands, but the summit stands are great in my opinion. Been very pleased with mine.
MCH
I've never owned an Ol' Man but have used one and to me there is not much comparison. Summit wins hands down on both comfort and ease of use in the field. Lone Wolf are great stands too, but can't beat Summit's comfort level. OUTSIDER
I have owned an API, Loggy Bayou, summit, and a Lone wolf, all climbers, My conclusion.....I will never own another climber other than a summit. It is by far more comfortable than the others listed, maneuverable, functional, and durable. the lone wolf was a great stand, but it was a little troublesome to adjust the stand if you are up in a tree. I devised a system to adjust my platform with my summit if i don't get it tight enough to the tree.
LifeNRA
I never owned the Ol'Man stands, but I do own the Summit Viper "Goliath" model. Love the Goliath climber quite a bit!! It's 3 1/2" wider on the top section and rated to 350 lbs., that's one reason I went with that one over the regular Viper. The only thing I didn't like about the Ol'man climbers was that they looked like there wasn't enough room on the top section to sit into, due to the closeness of the top side rails wrapping so close around the tree??? Same here! I too have the Goliath model. Imagine sitting there in the cold with a smaller top section. With no room to move! Which is why I own the Summit Goliath. Besides their customer service is second to none!
Adjam5
I would go with Summit. I do not have the Goliath, but most have the same bottom portion. I have tried a few different ones, but the Summit is what I hunt with.
Outdoor_Guy
Have owned summit stands for years. Tries ol' man once. Summit is my choice. The goliath beats others with the size and light weight.
