HUNTINGMAN
I was at sportsmans warehouse today picking up jellyhead chock for my turkey gun,I was going to buy me a box of heavy shot because this is the first year I have had a gun that I can shoot it in.I did not know that they were so expensive, and the federal mag shot was around the same price 29$ a box of ten.Does anyone know of a shell that is equivelent to these that does not cost so much? This may need moved to hunting equipment, dont know where the best results will come from. bluelund79
Heavishot gets some great reviews, and Iagree that the price is high, but that is the rising cost of ammo for you. I got some at the end of waterfowl season on sale for 19 bucks a box, and picked up quite a few boxes to test next season. I haven't used them on any game yet. From what I was told, the closest to heavishot is lead. Thats great for turkey and upland birds, but can't use it on waterfowl. I got it because for awhile, I couldn;t seem to hit squat with steel until I learned that I had overchoked my gun. Lesson learned...
Leo
Heavy Shot doesn't work so great in a super full choke designed for lead. For turkeys, I honestly have a hard time getting away from #4 Winchester Supremes. Plated buffered lead for turkeys is still the way to go IMHO. Dubie
I find steel works just fine, if you adjust your chokes and your shooting accordingly. I couldn't down a bird for the life of me the first year steel shot was manditory. But after going from full to a modified, moving up from a #4 to a #2 shot, and leading the birds a lot less, I consistanly kill ducks and geese just as easily as I did with lead. camoman1
Ive had good luck with HEVI STEEL for ducks. Its about 29 bucks a box but u get 25 rounds. Still expensive but i have had good luck with it. I use Hevi Shot for turkeys. Once sighted in, a box of 10 rounds should get u 10 turkeys......that my reasoning for spending that much
