TCFORLIFE
I just wanted to know if anybody here owns a safe made by stack - on. I'm thinking about purchasing one from Dicks because they are having a sale and i need a safe. The Stack-On Total Defense 28-gun safe can be used to safely store up 28 guns or 14 guns plus storage with 6 adjustable shelves. It's crafted with 7 large, live-action steel locking bolts and 3 solid steel dead bolts on the hinge side of the door for a total of 10 locking points. This is the one I'm thinking of buying. lil hunter
I have a stack on 16-32 gun 2 door safe. It's really more of just a big metal, lockable cabinet. The locks on it suck, and it takes forever to get the keys in and out, and to get them to actually work. I know it is a much cheaper model than what you are looking at, but i don't think it'd be tough at all to break into either. I won't get another stack-on safe, thats for sure. But like I said, the one I have is completely different than what you posted.
bluelund79
I looked at them as well. They seem better built than the locking cabinets. If it meets your storage requirements and YOU feel safe putting your valuables in it, then I'd jump on it. I am waiting for my Patriot Safe to come from the factory. I felt that it was a better buy for ME and I got a military discount and free shipping to boot. Might want to check them out as well, you really couldn't beat the deal, and I have been looking at a good safe for awhile now.
Strut10
I got a Stack-On at Dicks that looks almost like the one you pictured. The interior is the same. Just the door handle on mine's different from the one pictured. I have nothing bad to say about it.......except it was too darned heavy to be carrying up a set of stairs. I'd rate mine as a good safe for the money paid.
TCFORLIFE
I'm going to leave work early today and go check that safe out with a buddy of mine. I'll let you guys know it turns out.
PAhunter14
My brother has a 20 gun safe made by stack on. No complaints with it. It has a lock similar to that one but the handle is a bit different. Interior is the same.
WHISKEYSWAMP
How much is the sale price at Dick's? I might have to check them out too.
toddyboman
whats the sale price??
TCFORLIFE
They have them on sale for 599.99. I never made it to Dicks yesterday because I wanted to check Gander Mtn before I looked at the stack on. I ended up buying a browning theftgard. They only had the display model there and the sticker was peeling so I managed to get the browning for the same price as the stack on! They both have the same rating's but the browning has a better warranty, and I liked the layout better. Here is a pic, I think I made a better purchase buying the browning. snapper
They both would work to keep guns locked and secure...personally I wouldn't look at a safe that has the hinges on the outside...but thats just me. Browning is a better name (IMO) than Stack-on....I think you'll be happy with it.
TCFORLIFE
Is the hinges on the outside a big problem if it has locking bolts on the hinge side as well? These two safe's were in my price range, I would love to have a liberty but that one will have to wait. I really needed something now. snapper
I really don't think its a BIG problem...just that the hinges help hold the door on and shut. If they are on the outside...they can be easily removed...that could be the first step for a theif to break in. It prob. wouldn't be easy or maybe not even posible to get it open...just one of those things that was in my head when I bought my 2 safe's. Here's an example (although a smaller scale) my wife has a little 2'X2' Sentry home safe that she used in college. Its fire proof, hinges on the outside and 4 locking bolts. She lost the combination years ago and we've been moving it with no idea whats inside (she couldn't remember). I told her that I could try and get it open...but no guarantees that I wouldn't break it and still may not be open. So I started with the hinges...popped them off...with a hammer and a pry bar...I not only got the door off...but the combination was inside. I unlocked the door (lying beside the safe) and put the hinges back together and still works fine. Like I said...a big gun safe would prob. be harder to do that to...dunno, never tried. TCFORLIFE
Hopefully I'll never have to find out if someone can break into it. At least they will have a harder time.
oldreloader
I have one of the cheapie ones I got at Walmart several years ago.It does ok for what I paid for it.I lost the key and had to get another from them. TCFORLIFE
I looked at the hinges on the theft gaurd I bought and they look like you would have to open the door before you can do any thing to them.
Guest BSinger82
I just ordered this Stack-On 45 from Dunham's Sports. 829.99 on sale. Plus I had 20% off of that. I did a search on google and found a coupon. Total was just under nine hundred shipped. Best deal I could find.
