Guest yoders_hideaway
I am going to get a .45 caliber pistol soon, any particular brand i should be looking for. This is just to have to mess around with. I got laughed at with my 9m so its time to grow up.
camoman1
i dont own a .45 myself but, i have a Springfield XD.40 and i love it. I would have to imagine that an XD .45 would also be good. Also depends on how much u wanna spend......
Rem308
Plenty of good ones out there, I would go a few gun shops and look and handle several, a good gun store will have plenty of advice. Hit the range with some friends, even if their particular handgun isn't chambered in a .45, you can at least get the feel of the handgun so you'll know what you like and don't like, then probably find the same model in .45 if that's what you're after. I personally really like the 9mm for shooting at the range and my CCW has always been a 9mm. I wouldn't worry too much about what the others say. Good luck. Guest yoders_hideaway
Thanks for the help guys, I won't be in a hurry to buy one so i will have time to handle a few.
bfletch7441
You can't beat a 1911 style .45. Every manufacturer out there makes at least one. I've got a Colt 1991 A1 in stainless, and would definitely recomend it to anyone. It's far too big for a CCW, but that is why I bought a Springfield XD 40 sub-compact. The .45 is a great round, but you should have and shoot what you're comfortable with. Ben
aksheephuntress
....I personally like the Sig Sauer .45....and I agree, you should get what feels comfortable for you...both in your hand, and on your side.
oo_buck
I just got a Kimber Stainless II about a month ago..... It is AWESOME. I'm not real sure what it is about the gun, other than everything. Feels good in the hand, and hits what it's pointed at. I couldn't ask for more...... Hoosierbuck
I have been to several autopsies hosted by the lowly 9mm and I guarantee you nobody was laughing about it there... I remember this one guy who got shot in the abdomen, the hollow point (talon-style) mushroomed out and tore up his liver, then severed the descending aorta, and went into to the spine and severed the cord, and lodged in the back of the vertebrae. Total devastation and they guy went down so hard he had gravel in his mouth. Not funny. HB
bowana
If I were to choose a carry gun in .45 Auto it would be the 220 Sig (I own each one stated in this response). It is a wonderfully crafted weapon that fits in small hands well. The double action trigger is as smooth as glass. It is very accurate and easy to clean. My second choice would be an H&K USP. My third choice a Glock 21. If you are looking at a Model 1911 and its your first one, Id go with the Springfield Armory Loaded model. Best bang for the buck. When you become familiar with it, you can always purchase custom add on parts or components. As far as your 9mm being a baby to the .45....not so. A 9mm Corbon +P+ in 115 grains is one of the best bad ass defense rounds available. If I were to recommend one of the best true concealed weapon out there...it would be the Glock model 26 stoked full of Corbon Ammo. I have the 357 Sig version, but its recoil is a bit more than most people can handle. You may want to save yourself some money and hang on to the 9mm. Our "meat-wagon" guy has made a valid point with regard to his anatomy lesson.
Hoosierbuck
meat-wagon?? I don't get it. I do, however, see that my post might be a little graphic. If it is deemed so, PM me and I will edit if need be. HB
TexasDeerHunter
I would look at the Glock or Sig , but if your wanting a 1911 then check out some Springfields. If you want to spend some money on a cream of the crop 1911 then look at the STI's , Browns, or Les Baer guns.

oo_buck
Go to Wally World and price all of the ammo...... Get a gun that you're willing to buy ammo for. But with your wallett, you could go all out......
Hoosierbuck
its just to mess around with If that's really how you feel about it, then what in the world is wrong with your 9mm? Much cheaper to shoot that .40 or .45. I think you are just afraid of commitment and you have been with the 9mm for a little while now. It's just not as exciting as when you first met, right? The same old "bang bang bang" just not doing it for you anymore? So you get a new .45, how long before she...I mean it does not satisfy you anymore. Then what, Desert Eagle .50 AE?? Maybe a cute little Israeli submachine gun, or a hot little German full-auto number? I think you really need to have a sit down with your 9mm and hash this thing out and see if there is any future in being together. You need to be honest with yourself, first, and decide what you really want. HB
aksheephuntress
.....That was funny, Hoosierbuck! That was great; and true, too. .....the only thing I would argue with your point(at least in my opinion) is that there is always a good excuse to buy a new gun!!..The more, the merrier!! ........"She" will get over it!!! Hoosierbuck
I'm just pitching you a hard time about needing a new gun because you got laughed at with your 9. If you just flat out want a new gun, that is an entirely different and imminently reasonable motivation. In that case, you should most definitely buy yourself a Kimber Tactical model 1911 variant, A Sig 220, and an H&K USP and conduct extensive testing on which is truly superior and write and article for a gun magazine so you can write the whole deal off as a business expense...
