TCFORLIFE
Anybody here have any full body mounts that they can post a picture of? I was lucky enough to take my first this past season. I'm going to do a full body mount and I'm not sure of the pose I want to use. Thanks.
aksheephuntress
....Our black bears are rugged, but try getting ahold of a Van Dyek's catalog to look at poses, until someone posts one, here....a fall bear?...what did he square?...did you get a skull measurement?...was he a good eating one???..oh, I'm just excited for you!...he must have been nice, if you are thinking full body!...try to post a picture. TCFORLIFE
The skull is still at the taxi and I havn't tried any of the meat yet. I've heard different stories about it, but I've got some steaks waiting in the freezer. I've already picked a pose that he had on display, but I just want to see if something else catches my eye. I will say he wasn't the biggest bear I've seen around here, but I was on the ground and he came up behind me. Shot was probably only 60 yards. Guest Finn
Congrats on the bear. Try marinate some steak/loin in Italian dressing overnight and grill it. Bear must be well cooked....no medium or rare with bear meat.
TCFORLIFE
Thanks, I'll make sure they are well cooked.
aksheephuntress
...Yeah, he's right...make sure it's cooked thoroughly....What we do, to make sure.... but to not over-cook it to a piece of leather......is to stick a meat thermometer deep in the center of a cut of the meat....cook it at 400 deg until it reaches 175 deg. Immed. take it out...I like Finn's idea of the Italian dressing marinade. I rub it with salt and pepper and Ranch dressing(I practically DRINK THAT stuff...)..and cover in the refrig for 3 days. Bear meat is the meat we eat most.........as long as it is not a fish bear. Congradulations, again!

Dubie
Thats my taxidermist. They do great work. They have my 07 rifle deer as we speak. Just a couple blocks from where I work As for pictures of full body mounts, not mine but something I'd consider. This man is very proud of his full body mount, and I think it looks great. If you look through Hawkins site, they got some great photos you can brows through for some ideas also.
indianaboy
Here you go. This is my grandpa's bear. It is farely old. I say at least 15 yrs.
TCFORLIFE
The top pose is what I'm looking at now, just a little different. Mouth half open, and not standing as tall with head slightly turned to the right.
fly
The pose Dubie posted is my favorite. I'm not a fan of the open mouth roaring bear mounts. Closed mouth mounts seem more dignified to me. I'm hoping to take a black bear (will be my first) this spring in Idaho.
TCFORLIFE
I don't like the mouth completely open either, I do like half open (pant). I'll post pics when I get mine back.
