My cousin Bryant with his very first deer when I took him on the youth hunt a couple years ago, he is 17 now and graduating from high school in a few months. He is who I do most of my bow hunting with.

At deer camp for the gun opener, It is My dad and his twin brother, another cousin, and my uncles brother-in-law, along with bryant and I. don't have a picture of all of us, going to have to put that on my to do list for this years trip.

Here's most of the usual suspects.

My brother's the guy right behind my head in the bear pic. Dad's in the orange camo coat. My uncle John's in the green camo coat rear left. Forum member Silerado Kid (otherwise known as my buddy Dave) is kneeling far left. Another buddy, Carmen is right behind my rifle barrel. Our very own Snapper (the gang calls him "2-shots" :D) is 2nd from the left in the front row of the coyote pic.

...My first succesful attempt to post a picture...almost out of this big bull's meat.

....My best friend....the best hunting partner to have... He goes by T.C.

-This is the huge bull we harvested in the same area that we also trap.He was tough, but good in the crockpot. His rack was 55"...but he was so old, we figure that they had started to grow back smaller each year....also, very well-nourished bull.

Our 7 yr-old called him in!!..we called on & off for 2 days; last day of the season.

...If only he had been on THIS side of the river!!...load after load in the waders...water was almost over the tops, and fast.

I got 75 lbs of meat ALONE out of the neck. I like to take the liver, heart, toungue, nose, hide(eeek...80 lbs!...that's what I'm packing, in this picture)-and the lower legs for the tendons(I dry them for a year, pound them out and then it is "babiche".

...This harvest was the year after the "pregnant bear pic"(next)...so, "proof" that I did lose all that baby weight!scan0033.jpg

Had to add one of my black bear pics.-sqd 6'8"(the bear) preg.w/Ruth.Obscene,or what?

..Yeah, I don't know why I get so big when I'm pregnant...I shot this nice spring bear over bait ...Really worked that, for 3 weeks...and it was hard to get to. -Lugged in I don't know how many pounds of cheap dog food & beer ...found this great old fallen spruce to stuff the bait into. Had too keep waiting for the brown bears to leave(not legal, here on the Kenai)

.... I was so big, I could't get into a stand...so I propped myself like humpty-dumpty on a huge log down in a low spot about 40 yards away.

....He was so tasty!!..and I kept all his fat to make my pie crusts.

Ruth ended up being a 10 lb baby(surprised?)..and we delivered her at home , ourselves-they don't deliver babies here, and the fishing was too good to take time out to go to Anchorage!

..My beloved family..Montana,Mackenzie,Jed,Rebekah,Ruth,and my guy(&best friend)-TC.

scan0019.jpg..

...I haven't figured out how to post multiple pics in one post...please forgive me!...Anyway...this bear was my first when the kids were a little younger...was real good eating! We put a two or three bears in the freezer every year...they're all over up here!:D...Most of you guys in Wis. , Penn., & N.J.,and other places have so much bigger black bears than we do!(except for in Prince William Sound..)

...Bottom pic is after last year's trapping season(trying to take care of this year's pics..we just pulled traps and had pelts sealed).

Our hunting and trapping is usually a family affair...except for the sheep hunting(our passion) -will post a whole thing on sheep, different time.

ok, one more...

...One of the more interesting trails around here.(was an old mining trail)...we have to keep keep on our toes on this one!....We hardly use the 4-wheelers to hunt....We have sheep hunted each harvest season for the past 5 years,up and over the other side of this drainage; we have only flown in 1ce to sheep hunt (drew up north); we DIY...and we prefer it that way.Actually , I drew a much-coveted sheep permit this year, up north....The trophy is the meat!!!...but, we're going for horns(and meat!) this time.-and I'm NOT lugging my 9 1/2 lb .338 up into the high country, this year...getting me a sheep rifle!

...Hiking back to one of our fav. moose hunting spots here,on the Kenai..a :D16 mi. roundtrip hike.

...Oh, lots of goats in here, too. -One year, I counted close to 200 goats in 11 days of sheep hunting.

Wow!..That is a huge bear!!..Anything 20" and over up here for a blk bear makes B&C.

....Nobody seems to weigh bears up here...I don't know if it is because their weight fluctuates so much from spring to fall?

...But it is official practice (only up here?I guess) to "square" a bear...meas. nose to tail, tip of Lt claw to Rt claw, and averaging. That pic of the bear I shot when preg. sqd 6' 8"...considered pretty huge, here...

...That is an awesome bear!

I'll have to square the rug. I know it's over 8 feet claw to claw because it wouldn't fit on my wall sideways.
