Nice bear---AK. Where on the Kenai are you ? I've got a cabin on the Kenai River just outside of Soldotna. Headed up there in May to do some work on the cabin, hopefully. CB

The more I think about it the more I think this is absolutely the ultimate "DON'T MESS WITH MOMMA!" photo.

I just love this photo. Pregnant Momma, Bear and a 338WinMag. Get's my vote for priceless photo of the year!

[since there is no appropriate smilie insert outrageous applause and standing ovation here.]

I wanna show that picture to everyone who ever complains to me they don't feel like hunting or tells me I'm hunting with a rifle that kicks too hard.

Hope you don't mind me putting the full size img tag here.

......Hey, I don't mind, Leo!...Thanks!...I don't know why it posted so small, origionally.....(I'm still figuring out this picture thing, anyway)....and I still can't believe I got that big!...This area where we baited was a ways to pack in and out....I'm glad no one saw me making loads out through all the alder and devil's club!!!!eeeeek!

....Colorado Bob....we live a few miles up the road out of Seward.....feel free to call us while you are up ,or pm me.

....Let me guess...your cabin is near all that great moose area by Mystery Creek??!

....you ever get out in the bay much for halibut ?...May is a little early according to some...but that is when my son caught that 100lb halibut last year.

If you cut and paste the IMG code for the picture directly in the post it will show up full size. Click the IMG code, hit ctrl-c, go into your realtree post and hit ctrl-v. Hope that helps!

I need to convince my wife a May-July trip to Alaska will not freeze her!

I'm thinking first week in July is probably the best fishing. I certainly like to hunt (a moose would be #1) but I probably couldn't get her to come along then.

My buddy Erik wants to go back to Alaska when his tour in Iraq is over. If it's a fishing trip I'd probably get her to come along. Even though she's not too keen on fishing she LOVES salmon. Anyhow, Erik's honestly got me interested. I like eating halibut too and bustin a knuckle or two over a salmon shark battle would be grand.

AK-----It's right on the Kenai River, Trapper's Cove/Crossing. I been out of Homer for halibut. We have a good "red" hole right off the deck of the cabin. I like September-----silvers are running then plus the bugs are so bad. CB

.Yeah, Leo...July is great fishing time,here...but 1st week of July (as far as out of Seward)...or driving anywhere on the peninsula, or 200 mi radius from Anch, for that matter....is NUTS the first week of July!....The famous Mount Marathon race is the biggest July 4th celebration here...foot race from town ,to the mountain....3,022 feet climbing to the top, and negotiating shale /rock to the bottom....I run it every year.Helps me get ready for sheep season....It's nuts!!.. People with broken ribs, legs, concussions each year.

Anyway...you and your wife, and buddy are welcome at our place, anytime...as are any of the Realtree family , here...

We have a B&B you could stay in...just call ahead ,so we're not booked.

....I'll pm you with more contact info for us.

Yeah, June is the best time , in my opinion.

...Everyone , at some time in their lives, should take the time to come up and fish and hunt in Alaska. The neat thing about the Pennsula, here...is we are nestled ,quiet, in the woods....6 miles from town/the bay to go out and fish, or even snag for salmon on the waterfront.....minutes to the best lakes and rivers full of rainbows, grayling and dollyvarden....15 minutes from the start of our trapline;10 minutes from our "range"(it's rough,though!)...Moose and (especially) black bear(season is never closed...can take 2/yr )...and sheep country is 20 minutes up the road(but, it takes hours to hike up to the country they are in )The black bear tag for non-res. is $225.no guide required. We bait in the spring(res only), but go stalk them up in the berries come fall.

Oh-and then the goats!!!.....well, Ill stop rambling.

...Seems like the ultimate Alaska trip, if I were to come visit for the first time, would be to take 3 weeks with family, rent an RV out of Anchorage...(or stay in a B&B in Seward)...book 2 or 3 halibut/salmon trips, and arrange having the fish shipped home while you continue to fish the rivers/lakes ,and take a raft trip to also fish and watch bears.....and have an opportunity to get an over-the-counter tag for black bear, hunt everyday....while other family members, if they want, can shop , or ride the Alaska Railroad train that operates every 2 days from Seward, up through Denali Park, to Fairbanks& back...lots to do ,see, history in Seward(the town was established as the most northern ice-free port).

We feel like we live at the top of the world....We fell fortunate to be able to do all this , even with busy schedules....I run the B&B, and homeshool the kids...and my guy runs commercial construction, around the peninsula.

Come on up!

...Hey, a neat site to visit is the one put out by the Seward Chamber of Commerce.....a great picturesque overview of this awesome port town, and all that it offers-just type in "Seward, Alaska Chamber of Commerce"....But, for hunting info...just pm me :D...and there is the State of Alaska, fish and game website...we are unit 7, down here.

Hey, Colorado Bob....I got the topos out, looked up where you said your cabin is located...nice spot!!..

yeah, and I bet you get visited by your share of brownies, too!!:D

....Unit 7 started cautiously opening season up on them, again...(I think 15, to, where you are...)..2 yrs ago. The limited reg. tags on them keep getting canceled by DLP kills before season, though....But still, I'm sure you have noticed when you've been up ....the peninsula is getting over run with them!-Good luck with your cabin work.

WYOMING....(Orlan?)...come on up to hunt sheep , sometime!

......Life is short.....Do it now!

....No, we don't have a website yet, for ours...we are members/advertised with the chamber here,though...we are "UP NORTH B&B"(a little play on the abbrev."UP",for that part of Mi. that my guy is origionally from.)

...There are a lot of links from the Seward Chamber of Commerce with many B&B's in the area....we have had ours for 2 seasons now, and thank you for reminding me to get some help with getting a web site designed!!!....I'll pm you w/ more info. We are one of the few that are deep in the woods with a private fire ring and bbq; laundry, freezer space for fish, pets allowed, and room to park a boat if need be.We started just having family come up and use it,but we thought...why not have it as a B&B??....we also don't charge an arm-and-a-leg....and, we are partial to hunter/fishermen!!
