Camo or Laminate???

This is a personal preferance question. If you could buy the same shotgun, as a dedicated turkey gun, both at the same price, which wold you choose? Full camo or a matte blue and laminate stock gun???

I love the look of both of these. Honestly speaking I don't think the camo is totaly necessary for turkeys. I think it's more for us. But,,, I do love camo also.

So which would you buy???

I couldn't resist,,, I bought a NWTF Winchester 1300 in laminate today. It is as NEW and has the turkey scene and NWTF engraved on the side. The price was at least 100 dollars less than what I think they are worth.(which it isn't an expensive gun really) It's really sweet looking though.

22" barrel and a slug barrel I'll use from my other 1300 that I will now sell with a 28" smooth bore. This gun is going to be a geat Turkey buster!! I can't wait.

Is that a short turkey model? Got the buck and tom model win 1300 here which is full camo, no engraving, but does have the nwtf emblem gold cap on the stock. Earlier models had nwtf and some other lettering on the stock, think I got mine in the last year of their production.

Wtnhunt,

Yes, it's the short barrel (22") "Turkey Special", they call it.

I really love your Buck and Tom model. I almost bid on one earlier in an auction. I thought about it too much and it sold before I got my act together. I haven't seen one that wasn't overpriced since. That one would have been less than it's value so I was very dissappointed I didn't buy it. That was my first choice for the 1300. Fiber optics, short barrel, and I really like the camo pattern on it.

I didn't know these Turkey Specials existed until I started noticing them on gunbroker. They go for about what yours is worth. I got it well under that, love how it looks also, so I bought this one. I'm happy.. it should be here hopefully this week. No fiber optics on it though for some reason???

ohh, and the engraving is just black (not filled in with gold or anything) on the side of the receiver. It's a turkey in strut and in cursive NWTF written out. The barrel and receiver are matte black.

I'll get pics here soon.

Yes, the laminate ones on there right now are turkey specials but not the NWTF commemoratives. You get the idea though. The laminate on mine looks just like those.

The Buck and Tom I let go last year sold for under 300. I think it was 270ish. It was in excellant condition apparently too. I figured that was 100 or so less than usual. The one I saw more recently sold for 370 - 400 if I remember correctly. I did not bid on that one. It was more than I wanted to spend but most likely what it's worth.

It seems that any of the camo 1300's are 325 - 400 on gunbroker. With the buck and tom going at the higher end of that.

I didn't want to spend that much at this time so I've been lurking for something in the range I just spent. I was amazed I got this one for what I did so I didn't want to blow it again.

ON gunsamerica.com they have a few "universal hunter 1300's" and they are 400 -600. I remember when Wally World and Bass Pro had those and they were like 350 ish new. So those are way overpriced. Plus they have the 26 inch barrel which I don't want.

There is one camo model on Gunsamerica.com right now that is 275 with a 23"barrel and it's camo. I almost bought that one but really liked this laminate. So I didn't act on that one.

Actually the universal hunter at wal mart when I bought my buck and tom was just about the same price if I remember right, but I wanted the shorter barrel and went with the buck and tom for that very reason. I special ordered my gun from wal mart, I do not remember the exact price, but seems like it was closer to being between $450-$500 out the door after tax and the background check. The $270 deal was probably a great buy.

Those laminate stock 1300's are sharp guns, congratulations. Look forward to seeing pics of yours.

Your prob. right. I'm basing this off of a very poor memory not research. That is prob. why those on gunsamerica are so high. They wont blow out the door for that, but they may sell for that or close.

I knew that Buck and Tom last year was a good buy, I just didn't act fast enough. Even the last one more recently was prob. a great buy after hearing what they were new from you.

Woulda Coulda shoulda right???

I'm convinced that the turkey hasn't got a clue what gun your using or what it looks like when it gets hit though. Either way it's a bad day for them good day for us!!

Wtnhunt,

you know now that I thought about it, the universal hunters at bass pro were something around 425 right at the end when they were the last ones in the store. So surely the buck and tom was more than that.

I looked again on gunsamerica and those styles are all up there with those higher numbers like yours. They are not advertised as buck and toms, but at least one has the medalion and the same barrel and sights as yours. They are prob. going to get that too. I think they are worth every penny!

yes,,, there it is.. Very nice looking gun Maytom. That's just like the one I bought. Thanks for posting that.

What choke are you using?

Thanks, it's the 1992 NWTF version, scoped with a Leupold 1X4 shotgun scope.

I went with Rhino .660 sized choke as well as Nitro H378 3" plated 4X5X7 hevishot. After many years looking for the ultimate pattern, I have finally found what I was searching for with this combo.

Wtnhunt,

thanks,, it will have that factory choke. So I will try your setup as well. I also have a truglo choke I had on my other 1300 with the 28" barrel. I of course will try it also. It shot great patterns in the 28"er with those same shells.

I can't wait to shoot it this week. My ffl is a friend of mine and he is doing this as a favor. But,,he drug his feet contacting the seller so I'm still waiting.

I also have this new TC Omega I have to shoot too. I'm hoping to bring them both out to the range at the same time. Ohh the toys..:)

Winchester 1300 NWTF Laminated #275

I have the same laminated 1300. Never fired but my engravings are gold inlayed and numbered. Mine is 275 out of I believe 500. Is there a market for these and what do you think I could get for it. I cannot find any references for the numbering. A little help please.

Cool, I haven't seen one with the gold engraving. Mine is black engraving exactly like Maytom's seen above. Maybe you can post a picture for us, I'd love to see it.

As for value, I'm not the best to ask. On gunbroker I see the "turkey special" go from 325-400 usually. However I bought mine in mint condition for 260.00 on Gunsamerica. The gold engraving would certainly be more I'd think.
