Bunny Bonanza Part II

The local Sunbury Rabbit Chasers headed out again today. Devin and Kyle came back over for another go at the rabbits. My son joined us.

Curiously, we did not jump any in my field, except for one that Joe and I never saw.

So Joe and I headed to my neighbor's fence line and started pushing towards Devin and Kyle. Joe and I walked a good 400 yards with zero results. The youngsters put the old guy into the briars, and he came up empty. As I was contemplating the next move, I gave an old drain pipe a kick, and out went a rabbit. I collected that one with a shot from the little .410. Devin and Kyle were amazed I'm sure.

100 yards later as I was hound dogging the briars again, I kicked out another one that everyone saw except for me. The rabbit ran out towards my son and he took a shot. I sent Devin down to the next fieldline to where they always cross. Joe wasn't sure if he hit it, so we went over to look. I found the fresh tracks and kicked a log and out he shot through the back door. Joe wheeled around, shot, and I could tell he hit it as the ears flopped down, but the rabbit kept running so I shot at it, and I was pretty sure I hit it, but it kept running. We walked back to where I saw it last and Kyle found it laying in the middle of the fenceline. I had to get on my hands and knees to get it, but we collected the second rabbit of the afternoon.

50 yards later I bumped another one, so I continued on and kicked it out again, and this time it crossed right in front of Kyle and he rolled it with one shot from the O/U 12. This was Kyle's first rabbit, and I was pretty happy he got it. (probably happier than he was, lol)

So Devin was the only one without a shot so far, so I jumped back in the briars for my buddy, but came up empty until we jumped a creek and continued on. As we were walking I started seeing tracks again and soon enough I kicked another one out. This one took one hop and stood there. We put Devin on stage, and I kicked the rabbit out, and it ran back to where we came from, and Devin's aim was true.

Since everyone had a rabbit, I pretty much stopped working and just casually walked around mildly kicking likely brush piles, but we didn't jump anymore.

Think that's going to do it for me and bunnies this year, have to leave some breeders for next year, eh? :D

Here's the gang with goofy Mike and the beagle on the left, then my son Joe, Devin and Kyle on the right.
