any strategy or suggestion

I will be hunting coyotes from a deer blind tomorrow afternoon over a relocated old pile of deer guts and a carcass I am going to dump out in my field about 50 yards from the edge of the woods. I know when I shoot if there are several out there my chances of getting a quick shot off on more than one is not going to be very good with the bolt action rifle. When if a coyote is approaching, should I wait to let em get into it and let his buddies come along or shoot it as soon as I get a good shot and just keep on watching to see if more come along?

I think if one comes there may be another shortly. Also you may need to watch the body language. If one coyote comes & seems skittish you'd better shoot the first chance you get. Otherwise if one is eating I'd just wait a bit. Also once you shoot one & others run off just simply bark with your mouth & that may stop one in time for another shot.

On the other hand you might shoot the first one you see. This way you don't educate any others that may show up later.

Once you get one you'll want to remove him from the area so it doesn't scare off others in the future.

Good luck! I've never hunted coyotes this way. I can't wait to hear how you do.

It depends on how quickly you can work your bolt! I shot 3 wild dogs last year out of a deer stand. There is about a 15' wide shooting lane about 110 yards long. I heard the dogs jump a deer down in the swamp, and i could tell they were circling to me. I got my 6.5x55 Swede ready and a little spike came jumping across at the end of the lane. In a few seconds the first curr ran across and i shot him behind the shoulder. As he fell, two more came running across. I shot another in the shoulders and the third one took off down the road straight away from me. I shot him at the base of his skull. This all happened in about 10 seconds. It was pretty fun!
