bad stuff going around

Stomach virus, strep, and the flu are all making their way around. My wife had strep last week, and our oldest daughter had the stomach bug right before that.

Since November our 2 year old has had a problem with her skin with irritated areas that are like rashes, after visits to several physicians an allergist we took her to the week before last finally figured out the problem. The allergist thinks it is a rare condition called mastocytosis, and the treatment he prescribed seems to be working, the treatment is a med that is given in water 4 times a day, which is bit difficult at times with a 2 year old. Anyhoo, she started running a fever Friday, and we could not keep the fever down with tylenol, which kind of complicates things. With the med she is on for her skin, she is not supposed to take ibuprofen(somehow lessens the effectiveness of the med), but we ended up having to give it to her to get her fever under control over the weekend. I took her in to our family doctor this morning, and the swab test confirmed she has strep, they also checked for flu, and she has the flu, and also has an infection in her right ear too:(. Amazing how hard and fast this crud comes on. Our family doctor said they are seeing the flu and strep together in quite a few patients.

An ear infection, the flu, or strep are all bad enough by themselves, let alone the deal with her skin going on. Feel terrible for her, she has been pretty miserable.

Thanks for the prayers, hopefully the antibiotic will knock out the strep quick, and hopefully our other two daughters do not get it.

Our dr. did end up writing scripts for tamiflu for the family, $40 per person with the insurance:eek:, afraid to know what it would have cost without insurance. Hopefully it will keep our older two from getting the flu or at least keep it from being so bad on them.
