spcfoor
I dont have a air tight container to put my hunting gear in yet I am going out tomorrow and have washed my clothes in scent free detergent and put them in a garbage bag. I am wondering if that will help keep them from being to badly contaminated? I have a cover scent that I will spray on after I get dressed in the woods. longislandhunter
Re: Garbage Bag I've used a thick plastic garbage bag many times and have never had a problem. I usually collect some dried leaves and cut some small pine branches from the woods I hunt in and toss them in the bag also. Has always worked for me. longislandhunter
Re: Garbage Bag Hello to you NYbowhuntr - I live out on the "east end" of the Island. I spend some time up in Delaware county rifle hunting deer, but spend almost all my time bowhunting here on Long Island. The area I've been hunting the past few years is literally just down the road from my home so I bowhunt almost everyday of the bow season. Matter of fact I'm going through "withdrawal" symptons now that the bow season has ended. Can't wait for Oct. to roll around again. Nice hearing from you. Chrud
Re: Garbage Bag I say no. Take a garbage bag and set it outside. You can smell it, right? If scent is getting out, scent is ALSO getting in. I learned that from Ralph Cianciarulo on "So...You Want To Be A Bowhunter". Next time you are at Wal-Mart, pick up a Rubbermain Roughneck Tote, they work pretty good. Not as good as a Scent-A-Way bag, but I store my camo in them, and pop in a few Fresh Earth wafers into my travel tote.

wtnhunt
Re: Garbage Bag [ QUOTE ] Some garbage bags smell like plastic bad or are scented a little...be careful on which ones you get. [/ QUOTE ] Yep. Have noticed that too. Bought some plastic totes from wal mart pretty cheap and lined the bottom of them with cedar limbs. Keeps my clothes smelling like the woods. GWSmith
Re: Garbage Bag I dont use any...seriously. I just wash my clothes in "Pine-Sol", occassionally I'll spray down with scent-away, then always hunt with the wind in my face. I'm not saying that it does not help some to be very careful about scent...I'm sure it does...every little bit helps. What I'm saying is I have killed deer with my method and the freezer has no room left in it.
VTbowman
Re: Garbage Bag That is all I use during the season. I only store my stuff in a container for the summer... Garbage bags will save your stuff from a ton of scent. I would hang them out as much as possible to. Nothing beats good ole mother nature for airing out the camo... Guest Troy Gentry
Re: Garbage Bag An unscented garbage bag is better than nothing but I like a rubbermaid container myself
Illinoisbowhunter
Re: Garbage Bag Some garbage bags come scented so youll have to watch those, any other bag that is unscented that can be sealed up tight will be fine. Totes designed specifically for the hunter in mind do even better
Shaun_300
Re: Garbage Bag all garbage bags have their "smell" i like longislandhunter's idea by throwing in some leaves and pine needles. that should give you a "natural" scent and the deer should not be spooked. magnatecsteve
Re: Garbage Bag I use a super heavy duty plastic bag we use at work for resin, super strong and big..I can fit tons of clothes in it. I wash my clothes and leave em in there with some Fresh Earth scent wafers, then it all goes in a plastic tote.
Rhino
Re: Garbage Bag A friend of mine had some giant zip loc bags he had his gear in. I didn't know they made them that big but I think they were either 5 gallon or 10 gallon bags and he told me they came in a package of three. I'll be looking for some myself. I've been using 2 gallon zip loc bags and them putting them in plastic totes. Some of those bags are also stored in the cedar cabinet at my camp.
