ihunt365
There has been alot of talk lately about how the number of youth hunting is decreasing. It had me thinking on what the state or province could do to help recruit more kids into the outdoors. PA does not do a whole lot. Do any of your states do anything? What do you think could help recruit more kids?
OJR
I am working on a club just for kids and it will be a continuation of hunter education. We will be teaching safety and marksmanship! This club is going to go and if it does, the kids will be shooting all year long! We are also working with the Fish & Game on getting this thing off the ground! ihunt365
Sounds cool. If you need any monetary help the NRA has grants you will be able to get. You could even participate in it as a YHEC team.
ihunt365
here is the link to the PA YHEC site. Most of the states have teams that participate. Check it out. http://www.payhec.org/
Tominator
Ohio has instituted a bunch of youth seasons which seems to be working, although, I still say Ohio isn't hurting for more hunters.

stevebeilgard
some of the mines around gillette are offering a kids hunt for free. ages 12-17. wyoming law says you have to be 12 to hunt big game. we're trying to get it down to 7 with an adult. no luck
dlriggins
Indiana has youth only hunting season usually a few days before the regular season the adults are only permitted to supervise
Rhino
Mississippi has a special youth gun season for deer, a youth turkey season, and a youth squirrel season. In each case youth hunters get a week to hunt before the regular season opens. Other organizations like the NWTF have their youth programs too. If you check out some of these organizations you'll find many have programs geared toward youth hunters.

Dubie
Here, we got a Youth Deer and Bird combo license for $9, a youth turkey tag for $5. Other incentives, Youth can hunt any season, draw or non-draw, big game, upland birds, or wild turkey, but they share a supervising adults bag limits. There is also mentored hunting programs, where youth can hunt certian days under the supervision of an adult if they don't have someone to take them normaly. There's also Waterfowl heritage days, where youth get a week to hunt waterfowl without buying a license. I say we have enough programs that any interested youth has opporatunity to cut his teeth.
