stevebeilgard
just heard again yesterday that the mines (open air pit mining) are hiring and about 150 workers. wages are starting about 80 grand a year. most folks willing to work a bit of overtime make over 100. good retirement plan, great hunting & fishing. hours are challenging. 7 twelve on, 7 off, then 7 on nights, etc. HERE'S THE CATCH/PROBLEM. you must have a clean arrest record, pass the drug test, and submit to random drug tests. seems most cannot do that anymore.... i've posted this before, but wanted to do it again. i feel this is great opportunity for a young person to get ahead. and, frankly, a good reason to leave "home" and make a future. i did it myself at 17, with no regrets. Randy
Is there good hunting out there? Sounds like a great opportunity for someone! I think It'll be too hard to give up my life of crime to make that kind of cash!!
wtnhunt
If I was younger and did not have a wife and kids, I would jump on that in a heartbeat Steve.

OJR
I agree, this would be a great way to start out in life! The only problem is to find people who want to WORK!!
WHISKEYSWAMP
pretty good opportunity... almost tempting to quit my stressful engineering job and move out west.
IowaDeerHunter
What do you do? If I wasn't in college it would probably be something I would look into, sounds like a good way to start. Make nearly 200K for two years and then look for a job back home.
ruttinbuc
I don't know...Am I too old for this kind of work? Seems I am busting my butt at what I am doing now. Production job...go, go, go. Are all of these buggy lugging jobs? Don't know how hard it would be to pull up stakes and head out. Really plays into a decision to do it. If I were 20 again I'd be on it like white on rice!
Shaun_300
If I was fresh out of high school I would, that's a really good opportunity! But I'm 21 years old and about 2 months away from being a fully licensed automotive technician, which brings in around $65,000 - $70,000/year here in a town of 7,500. I'm starting to specialize in automatic transmissions, which you can go into Ottawa and be a specialist at a dealer (less than 1/2 hour away) and make $125,000/year if you're good. stevebeilgard
most jobs are driving a haul truck. not very hard work at all. big trucks, easy to learn/drive. great opportunity for a younger guy wanting to get ahead. brownie65
If I hadn't started a great job a few years ago I would be all over it. I have worked in quarries & mining operations for around 15 years. Would be a great job even for a older person not just a young pup out of High School. As I said if I didn't have a good job I would jump on this. The 7-12's would be great for me. Work them & go home for a few days, then go back to work. Would work out nice. rhine16
Boy i'd love to go, but i couldnt leave behind my life here. Just too much to just up and leave. Besides, I should be making right around if not more than 80,000 when i get out of college. Good opportunity for someone though.
Randyman
HERE'S THE CATCH/PROBLEM. you must have a clean arrest record, pass the drug test, and submit to random drug tests. seems most cannot do that anymore... [qoute] I work for U.S.Steel and we have the same problem here. These are some of the best paying blue collar jobs in the St. Louis metro area. When i hired in 2 years ago i was in a group of 40 people and only 13 of us made it through the drug test. (hair and urine) Jobs such as this or the ones you described are few and far between, yet few people seem willing to give up their partying lifestyle for them. Not many folks make that kind of money right out of college, regardless of your degree. Ben
dutch
That might be tempting. We make no where close to that around here.
