Sako vs Kimber

Need some advice. Have been looking around for awhile for a new rifle in a 300 cal. Recently ran across a great deal on a new Sako 300 Win Mag for a little cheaper than a new Kimber Montana 300WSM. Preferences from everyone? Positives and negatives of both?

Also, found a Kimber Montana in 338. Don't know much about the caliber. Cost of ammo? Positives/negatives?

Thanks in advance.

I love my .338 Win. Mag., but that is a pretty light rifle for the round. It is more than you need for the deer, but a GREAT round for elk and bears. It could be that the Montana is in the .338 Federal chambering, which would make it less extreme, and a very solid choice. Both the Sako and Kimber are very nice. I sure like the Mauser style extractor/ejector on the Kimber. Ammo for all of them will be high. Me-I'd go with the Kimber in .300 WSM out of those choices.

Personally I would go with the Sako over the Kimber - I have a couple Sako's and they are wonderful and 1 Kimber Montana in 300WSM that has been my nightmare rifle. For some reason with the bolt in the fire position you cannot load a second round - the bolt will not close - I have had it to Kimber twice and they claim they fix it and when I get it back - same situation. I have it out to a very competent gunsmith who has had it for 3 months and can't seem to figure it out without jeopardizing the safety of the gun which I won't let him do. I'm soon to send it back again and demand a new rifle. Right now it is a single shot at best and since I know the problem I won't trade it or sell it so someone else has the problem - Last Kimber I will ever buy.

The Sako 75 in a 300 Win Mag is a model that the factory gave out for a review/article. Dealer received this rifle from the factory, stating that he was passing on the savings to whom ever buys the rifle.

Dealer stated that Sako factory stamps these review rifles with a 'y' next to the serial number, so that you know what they are. This one is not stamped. After looking the rifle over, it appears to have not been fired at all. Dealer said that this is very possible and could be why it is not stamped.

He is asking $995. Is this a good price?

Thanks
