preacherman
I personally have always used #5's. I can't tell you why, but that is what I have always used.

Guest Desertrat
I have used 4, 5, and 6......with my latest gun.....6 seems to shoot the most consistent patterns with a factory full choke.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Sixes for me too. Great pattern is why.
maytom
When I use to shoot lead or copper plated lead, #5's were my choice. Better patterns than #4's and better energy levels than #6's. But as of now, I'm into the Nitro shells, and they consist of 4X5X7 (tri-plex load) plated hevishot. This load patterns best for me and doesn't have any holes in the pattern all the way to 40 yards. After seeing first hand the actual damage done to a gobblers head while using hevishot the first time, I believe it was Remington's version of the stuff, I'll never go back to "lead shot" again. Hevishot hits like a ton of bricks!! Each gun and shooter if different in his/her likes. The Rhino .660 choke tube and Nitro H378 3" loads are one awesome combo out of my 1300. Strut10
I guess the best shot is the one your gun/choke combo likes and the one that gets 'er done for your style of hunting. I'm cheap and like my birds close. #6 lead is my chioce for most applications.
