by myself today and came across a big flock in a farmers field...went and talked to the owner and he left me on (only because I was alone)...went back and went sneaking threw the woods to the edge and waited for them to come closer but they flew off in a big circle and landed out about 80 yards and started feeding to my left...couldn't get any closer so I descided to take the shot with my Mossberg 835 Ulti- mag W/ 3 1/2" and got 2 with one shot...They flew off the opposite way and couldn't get anymore shots...snow_geese_007MA20718323-0001.jpg

Sorry guys, but I strongly disagree. Not only is driving around looking for game ILLEGAL here in PA, but taking an 80 yard shot is extremely unethical. The sad part is, the guy actually got lucky enough to hit something (not to mention the ones that got hit with stray shot and flew off to die later), so he'll probably continue to do it. In my opinion, the way NOT to hunt geese!

How is driving around looking for game "ILLEGAL"...Alot of people do around here, when snow goose hunting...I asked the landowner for permission and he granted it to me and wished me luck...I was 300 yards or more away from my truck in a wooded area(law states at least 20 or 25yds)...So do tell what I did wrong...My mossberg 835 ulti-mag will break clay birds and that range(I've done it)...So don't preach to me about "UNETHICAL"...

Look it up. It is absolutely, positively illegal to use your vehicle to locate game, then get out and hunt it. It's called roadhunting, and whether or not "alot of people do", it's illegal, at least here in PA!

I have no doubt that at least once in your life you have broken a claybird at some outrageous distance. That has nothing to do with hunting live birds. Have you no idea how many birds (besides the ones that dropped) you hit with shot and escaped only to become crippled or die later? That makes us ALL look like idiots. In all honesty, I'm guessing that you merely overestimated the range. Surely, no ethical hunter approves of taking 80 yard shots with a shotgun at ANY game, especially a bird like snows which have a tendency to bunch up.
