Well ladies and gentlemen, I know I hav'nt been all too active here. I've had a few family problems as of lately. But I did manage to make it out turkey hunting this spring. And I think my success this spring will make everyone feel better. Opening morning I managed to bag a DOUBLE BEARDED 26# tom with beards of 10 1/4" and 4 3/4" and both spurs being 1 1/8". I'll get this guy entered as soon as possible!!

Good luck jm and punkin and congrats on the bird Nick, thats a great bird.

I had to go to my office this morning which is about 100 miles from my house and only 20 miles from my moms house and our place where I hunt. So after I went and ate lunch with some of the folks I work with and I was done with my duties at the office until next year, I went to my moms loaded up the shotgun and headed out to our place. Ended up getting a bird after sitting for a while, will get it entered up for the team in the next couple of days. He is no monster for sure, but with only 2 more weekends left for me and the way they are acting at my place I took the shot. Not exactly sure of the measurements, but he did weigh 18 pounds, beard is about 6 inches or so and about 3/4 inch spurs.

Way to go...congrats on all three birds taken for the team. I will be headed back to Western Oklahoma this final weekend to try and lay the smack down on a Rio. The only other time I hunted the Rios the wind was blowing 20mph and gusting to thirty. Hopefully the wind will cooperate this weekend. The birds I have hunted the past two weekends in Eastern Oklahoma have not responded to calls at all. They have gobbled their heads off on roost but after that they shut down. I have a feeling that the neighborhood stray dogs are chasing the "noisy" birds. We had one roosted on us at about two hours before dark. Sure enough, we saw dogs withing 100 yards of the tree. Wish me one final good luck. I will check back in Monday.

Wow...it must be something in the air. :D This morning I went on a run/gun mission since I have not hunted my area and because I was hunting at my Dads. Well I was out at dawn and had one answer but it would not commit so I left it alone. I traveled to the area where my son shot his and walked and called to see if I could strike something. About 7:50am I let out a call on the box call and get a thundering gobble back. I plop down and get the gear on and call again...he is coming...about 100 yards out I see this big fan and huge head coming through the woods..spitting and drumming the whole way to the gun where he met a load of #6 Hevi shot from my Moss 935. He weighed 21lb 11 oz (digital scale), 10.5 inch beard, one spur was about 13/16", the other was 1 1/16". He is at the taxidermist as I type!!:D

Well the scoring should be as follows for the team:

Punkslinger: 61.4375

Gus:44.5

Nick: 78.5

Bowtech_archer07: 64.75

That gives us a team score to date of 249.1875. That should put us in FIRST PLACE with the next closest team about 26 points behind. That's at least with the birds that are posted as of now. Woo Hoo team. :D

Congrats on all the birds guys, looking good. I just got all my info entered for the team. My stats ended up being 18 pounds, 6 1/2 beard and both spurs 5/8 for a total of 43.5 points.

The birds around my place haven't really been gobbling that much and when I could actually get one to answer my calling, when I would try to get closer or get him to answer again they would always shut up. So the last couple of weekends I have been sitting around my cameras where I always get their pics during the week, but on the wkends all I would see would be hens. Yesterday I walked around the pasture and never could get one to answer me, so I went and sat by one of my cameras. About 7:30pm I seen a hen coming my way, so I got the shotgun up and ready just in case. Finally I seen a red head bobbing thru the weeds towards me, so when he got within range I pulled the trigger on the 835 and down he went. Then I looked to my right and seen another red head running for cover, not sure how big he was, but I sure am happy to have finally got a gobbler this year :D

That's cool Gus, I went out with a friend last weekend hunting, and we were calling to a bird who wouldn't answer either. He was gobbling his head off to crows and everything else but us. I bet he gobbled 25 times on the roost. It was pretty cool.

I still have 1 permit left, dad and I have the same season again, we each have 5th season which comes in May 8th, we'll have 3 days to hunt together before he has to go back to work, and i'll have till either the 14 or 15 to hunt. Glad I got my bird, now my main objective is to call a longbeard in for my dad because he has never shot a longbeard before. He has killed 5 jakes I believe in about 9 years so i'm gonna try to get him one that weekend.. Still a couple weeks away, but we'll see how it goes.

Good luck, hope you call up a longbeard for him. Knowing my luck the birds will be running to all that I can throw them this weekend, I have until May 11 to hunt them and I have three more tags so we will see if I fill another tag or not. I do have a cousin that will be hunting with me this weekend that has never killed a turkey and so far this season he hasn't been to impressed with the hunting, so he will get first shot if he is with me, but if not I will let my 835 talk again :D

Congrats on the awesome birds guys !!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been getting out as much as I can. We've gotten on some very good birds, just haven't been able to get them in close enough. Our weather hasn't been helping much either. We keep going from 70s and 80s to 30s and 60s. The birds around here don't know what they should be doing. It's a different crazy mood every weekend.

This will be the last weekend our season and I'll be out in full force, just hope the rain doesn't mess with them again.

Then some time or a couple of times in May we will be going up to Kansas to hunt also. Hopefully I will be able to add some points before both seasons end.

Been haveing alot of fun, just nothing to put on the board yet.

I won't give up until the last sunset of season !!!!!!!

Nice job Nick!

Well the weekend came and it went. Saturday was a miserable day in the woods, foggy and windy. Walked about 2 miles trying to find something and had absolutley no luck. Then on the way out about a tenth of a mile from the truck in a small clearing we saw a hen but she must have seen us first and rushed off. So still no bird. I'm hoping that work will slow down and I can skip out one morning next week and try my luck.;)
