Its a really sweet gun, i got it so i can have the best turkey killing machine out there!. Also why i got this gun is there is no kick too it... its more like a 20. I've had the barrel shortened, re-threaded and fitted with a Comp-N-Choke XXX-full tube. The forcing cone has also been lenghtened. I have a Light'n Sights Beard Buster sight on the rib. The gun throws monster patterns of #6 lead shot to 70 yards (on paper only)!! I used it for turkeys for years and years. But at 9 lbs. it definitely kills at both ends. The recoil is horrific. Doesn't kick bad, but it weighs a TON! He's more man than me to lug that thing around in the turkey woods. I'll stick with my 12 ga., or better yet, my bow. Well if you think its too heavy go with the smaller new england or the h&r they are only 8-8.5lbs. Put a sling on them and thats not too bad. My gold light is like 9lbs and 10 oz. My problem is seeing these unpredictable birds here, they never seem to do the same thing twice. Hopefully they will come back to feed in our trefoil this spring. The recoil alone would change many people's minds after pulling the trigger on that gun!! As a matter of fact any 10 gauge or even a 3 1/2" 12 gauge is overkill for a turkey!! Heck I use a .300 UM of deer.. LOL Sadly I am stuck with my Rem 870 pump 12 ga. Only 3" Mags too. Oh well it hit em hard enough to bring home my 1st two birds last spring. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, Maytom, the singles are, many times, less brutal. The H&R Pardner 10 ga. weighs 9 lbs. That's the same as my BPS. But the singles tend to be a good bit "barrel heavy" and seem to have a more tolerable recoil impulse. Some of the older single 10's would tip the scales around 12 lbs. They are a dog to carry. I started out with a American Arms 10 Gauge Double, carried nearly all my first season, forgot it one weekend, took my Sears 12 gauge auto from the 70's with poly choke, ended up calling in my first ever bird. There I'd lugged that heavy 10 around all season and the weekend I don't bring it, I get a bird Anyway, used that double for several more years until Remington bought introduced their SP10 in 87. Shucked out the grand and have used it ever since. It's a sweetee although the double patterned better ( I traded it to a friend for a Colt .357 Python ). This coming season I may shoot one bird with the ol SP10, then I'm going primitive with a 10 gauge double blackpowder gun. Also, when I'm tired in the afternoon, I'm taking this sweet 410 double from Springfield Arms I picked up at an Antique Gun Show. Double Triggers and a nice pattern. [/ QUOTE ] Ever shot one of those 3.5 inch twelve's. They will put a hurtin' on ya when you are patterning. None of them hurt when shootin' at that ol tom.
