What a disappointing opening morning....

Well all week I had been keeping tabs on these birds, then this weekend they gobbled like no other....all morning to say I was pumped for this morning was an understatement!!

Well I snuck in close to the birds.....good

I got everything set up decoys out...camera set....good

Gobbler blasting away early no more than 50 to 75 yards away...GOOD

Then all his hens start in....:(:( I guess sometime between Sunday morning and now he gathered a nice harem of hens.

He gobbled a few times they cut and yelped a few times and when those hens hit the ground he was right behind them.....only down side they for went the other direction:eek::rolleyes::(

I did manage to circle all the way around em:o.....but of course he didn't want to leave his "real" hens to come check me out:(

Then I ran out of time and had to get to work :(

But on a bright note its only the first day and I have weeks of hunting still;):p:D

Ditto on the Moring Todd. Mine went similar.

Saturday & Sunday we listened to multiple birds in a good spot, Yes Yes! They were smoking hot too! Roosted in the same place every time we've gone, Yes! No one was in there scouting or hunting either...it was all too perfect. :(

This morning we get there extra early creep in and set up. Well something was missing, lets see... oh yes... The Gobbles! It's breaking day light and still silent out, that is not these birds!! Very Vocal! As we're standing there waiting for a gobble, anywhere, we see a truck pulling down the drive towards our truck. They seen us and turned around and left. However just after this we heard a gobble, FINALLY! Sounded very much like a Jake but we moved in on it. We got him talking to us and then this sick sounding hen chirped in to our left. You guessed it someone was calling, it was either an out of tune Box Call or a not roughed up Pot and Peg, that hunter needed lessons! Blah. Well soon the hens flew down and took the boys away and we got a gobble ever 5-10 minutes and that was all before it finally shut up. Total Bummer!!

Either someone went in there for the evening Youth Hunt or they tried to roost birds and spooked them pretty bad. Heck it could have been the birds sixth sense too, but that seemed awefully funny. I was disappointed. :(

All entered!

He was 19lbs, I'll have to get on the NWTF and see what kind of score we'd get from him.

These birds are loving the calling this year. My dad just filled his last tag today and now I have one more to fill. I'm not used to this, not even a week into season and we're almost done!? I'm going to have to hold off for a monster otherwise my hunting is done till next year.

Well This morning was another interesting morning for me!!! I was a bit late getting to the woods.....I was walking down an old logging road to the spot I wanted to go.....about that time I hit the old road a bird gobbled and nearly blew my hat off :eek::eek: I looked over in a big ol oak tree and there he was......about 60 or 70 yards.... Well I was to scared to move any more so I quickly as possible sat down by the nearest tree. I watched him for a good 30 to 45 minutes in the tree gobbling and strutting....I was an awesome site...and made for some good video ;):p:D

I watched him fly down and slowly work his way back in and to me.....he got to about 40 or 50 yards.....I was thinking he would come on in....and I wanted him to so I could get the entire show on film......well something else caught his attention and he circled around and left me :(:(:(

Not sure if the sun reflected off my camera and caught his attention or he came all that way and didn't see any hens so he thought something was up(since I was so close I did not get a chance to set out my decoys).......Needless to say something wasn't right so he left......However I did not spook him to bad cause as he left he was still gobbling some....and still gobbled back to my calls......Would have loved to stayed and went round 2 and 3 with him but had to get to work :(:(.......But game on for tomorrow morning ;):D
