stick
Congrats on the bird, I cutting it down to the wire I finally called in two nice birds this morning and neither one would break that 75yd line. I will go back again on wensday and set up a little closer to the roost and maybe I can get one at flydown. The birds are just now starting to gobble, been a strange year!!! stick
Well guys, I came as close tonight as I have all season to baging a bird. At 4:30 this afternoon I got to a spot where I new some birds should be. I got set up and made my first call and instantly got a return gobble. He sounded like he was on the other side of the valley so I got out the binoculars and started glassing. Sure enough there he was with 4 hens. I took off and tried to loop around and get in front of them and I succeded. When I started my first call with was with my slate I did a series of fighting purrs and the hens started yelping back and moving toward me really fast, after they had covered about 200yds I sat the slate down and was getting ready to use my mouth call. When moved to set the call down I heard Put! Put! Put! A Jake had snuck in behind me and had never made a sound and I was busted without a gun in my hand. By the time I got my gun up to try for a shot the bird had ran right to the hens and longbeard and they all toook off running never to be heard from again. I am sorry that I could not close the deal guys. This is the first time in 12 years that I didn't get a bird and today was the last day of the season. So I am done, If you other guys are still hunting good luck.
wildside
No luck for me - sorry, team. I was really confident about this season, but coordinating time to be out there ready to shoot with when the toms showed up proved to be unsuccessful. I did get a shot off with my bow (using the Guillotine) which didn't take his head off quite like I had hoped it would. He trotted away just fine, but I'm not convinced that I'm going to shoot one of those crazy broadheads again (hoosierhunter, now that I've taken a true shot on a bird with one of those, I agree 100% with what you wrote about them!). I sure wish that I could've posted one for the team. . . . Congrats to those who did!
Rhino
Just so everybody will know, I sent a PM to hoosierhunter and nysbuckmaster to let them know they had to post enter their birds by June 15th. Looking at the team scores their birds will put us close to the top.
Randy
Well guys, I am truly sorry for my lack of participation. I did hunt and only was able to go 4 out of 5 days. I had a few close encounters with the same Tom hanging up at around 60-70 yards but I couldn't close the deal. I know there was a lot of distention amongst some of the members here for their lack of participation with the deer contest. I don't want to be one of those guys but, I have a lot of personal things going on with my life right now and just haven't taken the time to sit down and participate. In the beginning of the contest I looked forward to get to know all of you, now here it is the middle of June and I don't know any of you. I hope you accept my apologies and Congrats to all of you that got your bird. Randy
