slughunter
All last week we had 50 degree weather and the snow was almost all the way melted off and now we have about 4 more inches on the ground from last night. Its making it pretty hard for these turkeys. Hopefully they all make it. -shane

slughunter
Been seing a lot of nice gobblers around at my place. They have been roosting in the same area all month and its about 200 yards from my hunting spot. They are also starting to split up because the snow is melting which is good. Also I got a new turkey set-up. Its a remington 870 synthetic with a Nikon pro-staff 2-7x scope on top. This will be my first time turkey hunting with a scoped rig. I patterend it out today and its shooting good out to 50 yards. Now I just gotta get my mouth calls out and start practicing. -shane
AdvantageTimberLou
Good luck with that new gun Shane. Myself I am going to try it with my bow this year, tough challenge but that is the fun part about turkey hunting. Best of luck to everyone, I still have over a month wait till I get to go hunting! wtnhunt
Season opens here this weekend. Birds here seem to have a pattern this time of year of staying in the woods early and not hitting our field or food plots in the mornings after flying down off the roost. They seem to head straight towards the bottom, and off of our property. Used the tractor Monday afternoon to clear leaves along a trail running a ridge to get in quietly to a spot where we have been hearing birds gobbling in the mornings. Not sure whether to try to slip in under them early morning or hold off to hunt that spot in the afternoon and hunt a field and try some light calling and set up with decoys. Really do not want to bump those birds. Good luck to everyone.
fenderhunt4
Well, I was down at my in-law's farm in KY last weekend. The birds were gobblin and struttin. I saw 6 toms during the morning. I'm looking forward to heading back down there when the season opens! Good luck to everyone starting soon!
wtnhunt
Terrible start here. Spent about 3 hours yesterday morning in the wet, windy, and below normal temperature weather and never heard a single bird, only heard one set of shots that were remotely close. Think they have gotten tight lipped with the weather changes, they had been really talkative Easter weekend, we sat out last Sunday morning before the kids got up and heard at least three different birds in the woods up beside our house. Got heavy rains today, likely flooding in the bottom.

AdvantageTimberLou
My season does not start till May but went up to my deer hunting spot today to remove a ladder stand and we seen 10 hens and 2 Toms with them. Parked the truck and just used our voices to make turkey sounds and got the Toms to strut!! They were probably only 40 yards from us and not all that shy! Come May they will be gone probably! Was good to see them as we usually don't see them around spring as the land gets too wet but this year they are staying around. Good luck to the ones hunting and I hope you have success soon!! slughunter
You got quite a bit of time then William. Hopefully things heat up shortly for you. Our seasons are only 5 days long and I got drawn for 2 of them so when my season comes around I will be out ever morning before school or work. I start up April 16-20 and then April 23-27. I have a good feeling. -shane

woodsman2230
I went out scouting this morning and heard 3 birds on the roost. It was windy as heck and this property was the only one sheltered from the wind so I was able to hear them. I also heard one across the road from my apartment right behind Slippery Rock High school LOL! I dont start hunting for another two weeks for ohio and 3 for PA

slaw
well the youth hunt was a beautiful weekend but we didn't tag a bird. It was't because we didn't have a chance. the first morning he was going to pass on a couple of jakes , but when they came in close he decided a jake was a good bird , but they stayed in line witth a couple of trees so the shot didn't happen. the second morning a longbeard came in but busted him as he tried to swing the gun and the gig was up. I was really proud of his response on the way home as he told what a great hunt it was, even though he didn't get a bird. Things look great for my hunt coming next monday. AdvantageTimberLou
Sounds like a great time was had though Slaw regardless of no bird. My season starts the first week in May. Wish you and the rest of the team a ton of success and most of all, have fun!
wtnhunt
Birds were pretty fired up here this past weekend. Let my wife get out since the conditions were so good, really hoped she would get a chance on a bird. She got close, she was between 3 or 4 birds Sunday morning, but one got shot directly behind her, and they all went quiet after that. Hope to get out some in the afternoons this week myself. slughunter
My season starts in 6 days. I was online checking my areas weather and things are looking good. It will be rain all weekend, then monday and tuesday its warm and sunny then opening morning it will be sunny with a little clowd cover. I went out and sat under my tree this morning. I heard 8 different gobblers in the direct area. I didnt do any calling though, dont wanna educate them before I have a gun in hand. Good luck everyone thats already hunting or will be hunting later on. -shane

slughunter
Thought I would share a cool experience with you guys. I went out scouting friday morning before light. I got to the corner of a field just as it was getting a little light, just enought to make out the dark hay bales in the feild. I was standing there waiting to hear some gobbleing when something caught my eye next to me. Not 20 yards away on a tree limb hanging over the feild was a big strutting gobber. He had no idea I was there. Then 4 more gobblers started strutting in the trees next to him. In all I counted 21 turkeys on the roost within 70 yards of me. They had no Idea I was standing there. When it got lighter they flew down into the feild and 2 more gobblers made their way over from across the feild. So I watched them for a bit then belly crawled away, dont wanna scare them out of the area. It was neat that I got so close to them wile they were on the roost. I can almost guarantee it will never happen when I have a gun in hand, lol. -shane
