Sounds good to me too. No I did not get the stock yet. I may have to wait till we are on our way to Kansas in Early April to pick one up at Cabelas.

How long have you guys been turkey hunting. I fall hunted off and on since the mid 50s, and took up Spring gobbler hunting about 7 or 8 years ago. So far I have about a dozen turkeys to my credit. Now if they are more vocal here in PA this year. Last year was nearly a silent spring. Just could not get them to sound off and or come in.

Paul,

I was born the week before turkey seasons started, my dad took me on my first hunt when I was a month old. He started me early. I killed my first bird when I was 8 and have been hooked ever since. I've been hunting turkeys for 21 years (22yrs. next sunday I'll be 30). Hope to get one on my birthday now that the season starts a week early.

Last year was tough here in MS also. I didn't even get a bird in my home state thanks to some poachers. I did manage to get two in NM and one in TX though.

This year is looking good if I can keep them on my land and keep others out.

Good luck to all this season.

I killed 4 turkeys last year, all of them in Kansas. My daughter lives there and for whatever reason our spring and fall visits just seem to coincide with their turkey seasons. Man perts of Kansas are covered up in turkeys and not that many people hunt them there. Last year here in PA the toms must have had their beaks taped shut. It was a rather silent spring. I would get one to sound off maybe once or twice on the roost but no action after they flew down. They just shut up and walked the other way. At least twice it was a lone turkey too.

What a day

I just got back from retrieving one of my game cams and had a truly awesome experience. I got to my place around 10:45, I had on my camo so that if I did see a turkey hopefully I wouldn’t spook it. I was also hoping I would run across the pack of coyotes that I had a run in with last weekend while I was out listening. ( I had some 00 buckshot with their name on them) . My camera had 6 pics on it, kinda let me down because of the amount of scratching in the area. I looked around that area then walked down to some hardwoods where I have taken several turkeys in the past. Scratching everywhere; as I was walking in the leaves I thought I heard a gobble but I want sure so I kept looking around. I walked back to the road (in the middle of 350 acre of pines and hardwoods), which has a small box stand and some grass planted for a halfway food plot, to see if I could see any fresh droppings. I found a little fresh sign but not a lot, then I heard a gobble (I thought no way not at 11:20) then again and again; he was getting closer. I eased up to the box stand and put my face mask gloves on, I got down on my knees and put my trail cam down beside me and propped my gun up on the stand.(I didn’t want any temptation) I eased up and looked through the slits in the stand, about 2 minutes later I saw a white head pop out of the pines at 30yds. Then his head disappeared, he was walking toward me. He was so close I couldn’t see him because of the stand, so I spread out on the side of the stand hoping he would not see me when he passed. Well he gobbled again then I could heard him drumming, then I could hear him breathing. Yea he was that close then GOOBLE I just about came out of my boots. He was less that 5ft. (I could have touched him) Needless to say he saw my foot jerk when he blew my eardrums out, but he didn’t spook he just walked around to the other side of the stand at about 15yds (him and his buddy). They walked a circle around me and feed off into another hardwood bottom in the middle of the place. Two long beards within 5ft. It was awesome. If I don’t kill a turkey this year that right there made the season for me.

I haven’t figured out where I’m going to go in the morning for opening day.

I didn’t even think of getting a pic with my phone or trail camera hind sight is always 20\20. I did't want to spook them.

Its mind boggling to me how people can say there is no GOD, apparently they have never been in the woods during the spring when everything is coming alive. I had to thank HIM for the experience I had today.

Happy B-day to me

Got one this morning. 19.75lbs. 10 13\16" beard and 1.25", .75" spurs.

He fell off in the swamp, he's covered with mudd. I'm going to clean him off and take another pic.

This was not one of the birds that came so close to me on friday. This was on some other land we have where I sent my dad Yesterday. He was able to connect yesterday morning on a nice 3 year old. tky.jpg
