Just thought I would tease you guys and let you know that I called in my first Tom for my buddy. I will post pictures later. 24 lbs. 10 inch beard 3/4 inch spurs. All I will say is that at one point during the hunt we had his pop up blind raised in the air with nothing but our feet sticking out the bottom walking 100 yards across a field. Needless to mention it was crazy, but the bird is down!!!

Had an AWESOME start today for the 2008 season! No bird taken, but had four gobblers sounding off around me! I started off with a hen that I was battling with! She was getting so mad at me mimicking her calls, she hung around for about 30 minutes. Had a gobbler up the mountain just gobbling his head off. I decided that I better get up or near his level. Once I did he just plain went nuts when I started calling. But he hung up again about 100 yards, refused to come any further. I decided again to move. I walked away and up to the top of the mountain, moved in a half circle around his position. Dropped over the side and started calling again. After about three calls and about 200 yards, I sat down. Called some more, and knew he was moving in, gobbling the whole time! Just then a shot rang out, then two more quick shots! I heard the shot hitting the trees to my left. Seems that there was a guy below me and in between me and the bird! From the shots that were fired, I took it that he missed. I ran down, but seen nobody. Funny, he never made a sound and let me do all the calling! Oh well! It still was a great start of the season! I just could not get over how these birds kept gobbling this morning!

Ugghhh is all I can say. Lots of gobbling off of the roost, on the neighbors property, hens cutting and cackling all over, then after flydown, it's lockjaw time. Been out twice and that's been the story each time.

Thats how it was for us today too! We heard a gobble, seen and heard a few hens, then NOTHING!!! Cold + rain = LOCKJAW!!!

:D

well, I am done with day 2 of my season and I have been hearing alot of gobbling in the morning. I have seen 4 hens and 1 running tom as I was leaving down the road. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am new to turkey hunting and I just want to make sure I am not doing something wrong :(
