Missed160
I live in Minnesota & hunt whitetail in the northern part of the state.. I have begun to think it's time to add a new rifle to the safe. I really have begun to fall in love with the Marlin & Browning Lever action Rifles. I am thinking about getting something in the .30 - .33 cal range.. Does anyone have one of these, besides a 30-30? Just looking for input on guns/calibers? drkillemquick
I have the BLR in 30-06! Love it!
RangerClay
I have both and I hope I never have to choose between the two. My Marlin is a 30-30 I shoot LeveRevolution bullets. I also have a BLR Lightning in .243 and it is a tack driver. Right now I use the Marlin for deer hunting and the Browning for varmints. If was you, I would shoulder both and buy the most comfortable gun.
bluelund79
I got my Marlin 336W in 30-30 for Xmas. It fits real nice, and after seasoning the barrel this past weekend, I shot an honest 1" group at 100 yards with 150gr Remington Core-Lokts...I haven't even broke out the other ammo I plan to test to see what it likes the best. I think you'll like them alot, I can't wait to use it in the Northwoods this year!

Not really a big deal at 100 yards though.
Shaun_300
I have a Browning BLR Lightweight 81 in .300 WSM and I love it! My bro has one in .270 Win and dad has one in .308 Win. Never had a problem with either of them, and dad's is probably 30 years old. Here's mine...
Strut10
Savage 99's come in .308 Winchester 94's come in .307, .356 and .375 Win BLR's come in .308, .358, .300 WSM and, I believe .300 Win Mag Marlins come in .308 Marlin, .375 Win and .35 Rem All would make fine short-range whitetail whompers. The magnum BLR's would get you out a snad further.
Guest TylerMatheny
My cousin has a .44, .45, and a 45-70 govt. I have shot them all and seem to like the .44 the best. It is a big cartridge and can get through brushy areas with ease but don't leave such an entry and exit. I like the .45 next and the 45-70 is just to much of a gun for me really. Adjam5
You can't go wrong with the Brownings. I have 2 Marlin 336's both 30/30, one Winchester 94 Trapper .44mag and the apple of my safe. My 1923 mfg. Savage99 in .300 Savage. Lever guns warm my heart. You can do better with the caliber range choices in the Brownings. If you are lucky you might be able to find a Sako FinnWolf. Another great gun. Good Luck!
Guest Colorado Bob
Missed160------If you go the Marlin 336 route I would get a 35 Remington before the 30-30. Lots of discussion of the 2 over a www.marlinowners.com Seems like the 35 has a better reputation as a deer stopper. I would also think about a big-bore Marlin like the 444---------that was if you ever decided to do a little bear hunting you are covered. Best choice all around lever IMO-- the Savage 99 in 308. I plan on using it this coming elk season using 180 grains bullets. By the way I have a 444 & 30-30. Love those Marlins. John Browning got it right. Hoosierbuck
Love my Savage 99 in .300 Sav, and the Winchesters in .444 Marlin, .30-30, and .44 Mag. Love 'em love 'em, love 'em! HB
David_218
I own a Rossi "Puma" which is a Winchester Model 92 Clone. Mine is a .44-40 Winchester and it is a very accurate Lever Action. I've not shot any Deer with it but did get a Woodchuck once. Mostly it just hangs on the wall and I take it out occasionally for some fun plinking.
