aksheephuntress
....Oh boy,oh boy,oh boy!!! ....After 2 years of studying/looking at/dreaming of a Kimber...and more recently ....considering and comparing Sakos....you wouldn't BELIEVE what I found at yesterday's gun show up in Palmer..... Picture this: My guy is way over on the other end of the sea of tables...he was looking at this light weight model of a Remington in the 300 wsm for me to look at ;then I come wading through the masses with THE RIFLE I just bought(we usually talk these things over,first)...it's cradled in one arm, Ruth in the other....and my other 4 kids trailing behind me..."Look!...Mama's bought a gun!!" You should have seen the look on his face. ....It wasn't a Kimber OR a Sako....it was the brand I have always held most dear to my heart. It was a WINCHESTER. A 30-06 Featherweight ...the A-bolt,wth 3-position safety.... ...with glass embedding... ...never been shot. The guy bought it years ago, got as far as putting on a scope mount;he had big plans for it...until he encountered ill health. ....After hearing of my quest for a sheep rifle....he sold it to me for $450!! Wow. Now , Not only do I have a sheep rifle, it is one so versatle and perfect, for anything up here. The rounds are cheap, readily available, and we have all the reloading stuff for 30-06 anyways. The real beauty: I KNEW when I shouldered it.It tucked right in, like a best friend. ...I found my sheep rifle! ...My guy didn't have one complaint . ....Now, I have to get some rings, pick out a scope, and put on a sling. ...And then I can go shoot it!!:D:D:D ....Just wanted to share my excitement with everyone!....I will post pics after I get it scoped out,and shoot that 1" group. aksheephuntress
...I was going to wait to post pics until I got a scope picked out for it, and some nice groups shot with it....I would post a pic if you really wanted me to....but there is a problem with our dig. camera right now where the screen is just black. I don't understand....it's new, as of Dec.-it is an Olympus 7.1 megapixels..."waterproof","freezeproof"&"drop-proof"...you can view the pics already taken,however....we didn't have time to get it looked at in Anchorage this past weekend.... ...any ideas, appreciated. In the meantime...the gun itself doesn't look all that extraordinary...I like the composite stock, and balance, feel of it....and it had a Millet scope mount put on it. Unfortunately, we have to wait 'till the next Anchorage trip to pick out a scope for it, before I can shoot it. ...thanks for your posts, guys! Dubie
Is the lense cap on??? ;p I'm not allowed to shop for guns that often because of what you just described. If I pick up a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, every once in a while one just feels right, and I have to buy it no-matter the cost (or the need). woodshed
Dubie, LOL I know what you mean. I'm not allowed to shop either. If I do,, then she says she gets to go out and spend and equal amount on her. So,, every gun I buy actually costs what 2 would!!! Yowchhh !!! Congrats on your new gun... I can't imagine how great it must be to have a wife have that much excitement over a GUN!!! Your husband is one lucky guy. My wife doesn't even want to see, hear, talk about, or anything to do with my guns and hunting. I'd love to be able to share this great passion/obsession with someone like that. Not in this lifetime....I wouldn't want to have her bust a nail or something horrid like that!!!
aksheephuntress
...Don't lose hope...if you get her to go out with you on a hunt ,she just might like it!-I didn't realize how somewhat rare it was for a gal to be excited about a gun....but I know my mom in Texas thinks I'm nuts...I laughed when you mentioned the busting a nail possibility...my mom was always worried about hers, she kept winning those pink Cadillacs selling Mary Kay .....I really love my mom(& she's a real neat lady)- but we are two TOTALLY different people. PA_Spike_King
I love them Winchester rifle's. Can't wait to see the pics.
Dubie
I tried to take mine hunting once. She wasn't thrilled about the 1/2 mile walk through the marsh grass to the pond I was hunting for geese. When I called one in though, she did get excited, and when I shot it, she thought it was the biggest thrill. Yet she still won't come hunting with me...Oh well, at least I got her hooked on fishing. I want to see the rifle to. Winchester has always been a favorite brand of mine
